Break’n Wind is a cute and cozy 3 BR/3 BA beach house located on the pristine beaches in the 4-Wheel Drive area of Corolla, NC, also known as Carova. Beautiful views! Wild horses roam free & will visit you at the house! Really! Located off road in 4-Wheel Drive area. Your vehicle must have 4WD or AWD with high clearance to get through high sand. No paved roads. Note: Make sure you choose the dog fee when booking. Dog fee of $100 covers two dogs. This ocean-view, dog friendly house is a few minute’s walk from one of the Atlantic Coast’s most pristine beaches, protected from over-development by being sandwiched between four near wilderness areas - including both the Currituck and Back Bay National Wildlife Refuges. Wild Horses run free in the area and can be seen wandering under and around our house on a daily basis. The house is 1400 SF and has 2 MBRs with queen beds and full baths on the upper level. One of the MBRs has a sundeck with two lounge chairs. The third bedroom has two twin beds and a shared bath on the first level. The LR has a sofa big enough for an adult. It's pretty wide. The house sleeps 7, but it would be tight with 7 adults on a rainy day. Other amenities include hot tub that faces the ocean, outside shower and fish cleaning area, washer/dryer, margarita machine, linens and towels available for your use (NOT beach towels), gas grill w/propane provided, fridge with ice maker, Smart TVs and satellite TV in all bedrooms and living room. We also provide supplies such as: Paper Towels (one roll) and toilet paper, Dishwasher Detergent, Dish Detergent, Hand Soap, Shampoo/Body Wash, Laundry Detergent, Hair Dryers, Spices, Oils, Kitchen & Hand Towels, Wraps, Coffee Filters, Basic Cleaning Supplies and Books, Games, Dog Bed, Dog Bowls. Please bring your own personal hygiene items. 4WD mandatory. There are no hard surface roads to get to the house. Vehicle must have high clearance to get through high sand. From April-Oct you cannot ride near the shoreline according to new law. If you rent during this time, you will also need a beach parking permit which you can borrow from us. (Parking permit/beach permit laws change yearly - please see Currituck County website). The 4x4 area is not for everyone. We are seven miles from the hard surface road. Takes about 20-30 minutes to drive to our house from the hard surface. We are located off of the Mile Post 20 ramp. There are no roads or businesses in this 10 mile stretch. (Carova Fire Department MAY have ice in the summer months). There are no street signs, but there are mile markers to help you find your way. Arriving at night is not impossible, but probably should be avoided. Check the tides. It’s easier to drive at low tide. Deflate your tires. Recommended air pressure 18-20 lbs. This is now a requirement. You can air down and air up at Historic Corolla Park near the Currituck Lighthouse. Get in a rut and keep going. If you stop, you can get stuck, and may also cause the person driving behind you to get stuck. Speed limit is 15 mph around people and wildlife. If someone is coming toward you in the same rut, use your turn signal to indicate which way you intend to go. What happens if you get stuck? People get stuck all the time, it’s not a big deal. Take your tires down, if you haven’t already. Carry a shovel with you or a tow rope. Many people will help you dig out your car. Last resort is to call a tow truck. Be prepared to pay cash for this service. Info for you will be in the house manual. If this is for you, then come on down, bring a good book (or three), feel the beach breeze drifting through your hair, and enjoy the most peaceful vacation this side of the grave. We have a lockbox and the code will be provided in your itinerary/house manual once you book your stay. During busy season there will be a beach parking permit for you to borrow at the house. (Check Currituck County website for dates required) Please take note: Hot tub maintenance and other outside maintenance may and will be done during your stay without an appointment. This is customary. This means that workers may come onto the deck while you are there. If you have a dog, do not leave them on the deck while you are not there. If there is maintenance inside for some reason, we will notify you and set up a time. Although we have fantastic maintenance people, sometimes it is difficult to get repairs done in this remote area. We will do our best. This 4WD area is so unique you will hardly believe your eyes. Imagine drinking your coffee and a horse family visits right under the deck. It's wonderful to beach here. Packing your truck/SUV up with all your stuff and driving to the beach to claim your spot is an unexpected convenience. Great for kids and older adults. Even the ocean front renters do this. Come give it a try. The closest store is 7 miles away and the nearest grocery store and other extensive shopping is in Corolla, 10 miles away. Lots to do there and great restaurants. Parking: Parking passes are now needed to park on the beach MAY-OCT. I will provide a parking pass for you to borrow. See Currituck County website for more information about specific dates, etc. You do not need a pass to park at the house, only on the beach. If you have extra guests who are driving a 2wd and need to park on the hard surface overnight, please contact me for information. Overnight parking has now been prohibited on the hard surface, but can be arranged. Check in is a 4pm. Check out is at 10 am. June - Labor Day week are 7 day minimum, Sunday through Sunday. Apr-May and after Labor Day week through December are 4 day minimum. This house rents Sunday to Sunday, but we will consider different days in the off-season depending on cleaning staff availability. Discount of 10% for 7 days or more. Although the water in our home is safe for drinking, color, taste and odor may vary. All water on the North Beaches is well water. Guests may wish to purchase bottled water for drinking. Every effort has been made to insure the best water quality possible, however these conditions are beyond our control. Water is provided via electric pump. If electricity goes out, water cannot be pumped. It may be a good idea to buy travel insurance in case of a weather related storm. I will reimburse on days where there is mandatory evacuation. We have a gas fireplace. It is available Nov-March only. Pilot relighting may not be possible during your stay if you turn it off. Do not burn anything in the fireplace. It is not vented. We no longer have a pull out sofa. The sofa is big enough for an adult and the cushions can be removed. There are sheets and blankets for the sofa in the downstairs bedroom closet in the bin.
