Description

When designing our two bungalows that are set on 5 acres we had couples in mind who want a getaway with views, privacy and quality of facilities. Spend time memorized with the night sky and the silhouette of the mountain landscape whilst soaking in the outdoor rammed earth bath. Walk the access track to a creek flowing through the forest. This bungalow is 40 metres from the main house. The Mangosteen Bungalow (see separate listing) also has a private setting and is 20 metres from the main house. Elevated on a hill to capture tropical breezes the property has stunning views of Thornton Peak, Cape Tribulation and the Coral Sea and is nestled on a terrace of Rambutan trees providing a perfect setting for relaxation and privacy.. We are located in close proximity to the beautiful Cow Bay beach, numerous waterholes, mangroves and rainforest boardwalks. There are two bungalows on the property, both are independent and private. The `Rambutan' has an outdoor rammed earth bath. We provide our guests with good quality produce, and where possible, source it locally. At Wompoo Eco Retreat we take advantage of our remoteness and living “off the grid” by providing bird watching binoculars rather than a television. Guests have access to: •A King size bed with quality cotton linen •Indoor rain shower/bathroom/toilet •Outdoor undercover self - catering facilities (private) •Outdoor rammed earth bath (private) •Fridge - basic condiments (olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt & pepper) •Crockery, cutlery, glasses, cooking materials •Handmade soap (made on the property by your hosts) •Wi-Fi (free - not available from the bungalow, but access at main house and/or garden area) A Continental breakfast consisting of - -Local fruit -Bread - honey - jam- butter -Museli -Daintree tea and a selection of local herbal teas -Ground coffee (small batch roasters - `Sipping Duck', Cairns) -Mungalli Milk (biodynamic) (Look at the photo section to see the breakfast we supply.) If you require gluten and/or dairy free products, please let us know in advance. We are a friendly couple who respect people's privacy. Our house is 20 metres away from the nearest bungalow, but a regular compliment is how private guests feel. Guests are more than welcome to come up to the house if they have any questions, would like any advice on the area or need to access the wi-fi. We also take bookings for reef trips and other activities in the area. Only a 20 minute drive to the Daintree River and 30 minutes to Cape Tribulation, our accommodation is a convenient location to explore the beautiful Daintree area. During the two hour drive from the Cairns International and Domestic Airports, you will travel the scenic Coral Sea coastline till you cross the Daintree River by ferry. Once aboard the iconic ferry you can sense the change of pace as you slowly switch off and start your journey of digital detoxing. Wompoo Eco Retreat is just five kilometres from the beautiful Cow Bay Beach. Other easily accessible places are Hutchinson Creek, the Daintree Discovery Centre, Coopers Creek Wilderness tours, Canoe Tours, tropical ice cream outlets and a yoga retreat. Reef trips from Cape Tribulation can be arranged by your hosts and this is only a 30 min drive away. There are a number of cafes and a hotel in the area, however, if you want to self cater, the bungalow is well equipped with a bbq cooker. We recommend purchasing supplies either in Cairns, Mossman or Port Douglas. There is a small convenience store in Cow Bay. It is recommended that you have your own transport. There is no public transport in the area. Wompoo Retreat gets its name from the `Wompoo Fruit Dove’, a beautiful dove with an amazing purple breast, and green, yellow and white markings. This bird has a very unusual call. Listening to the Wompoo is like listening to a human conversation, but seemingly muted and far away. Our retreat is so named due to the presence of this lovely bird.
