The Hilltop Hideaway on Little Long Lake

This is a small, cozy cottage, with a huge view. Enjoy your morning coffee relaxing on the deck while watching the sunrise over the lake. The cottage has a full kitchen, dining area, living room with a sleeper sofa, two bedrooms (one with a queen bed and one with a full/twin bunkbed), and a full bath. The maximum number of guests is 5. This is a true tiny house, but when you are at the lake you are there to enjoy the lake. The space The Airbnb listing states a “3 minute walk to the lake”, but in reality the cottage it right at the lake, a 20 second walk down the hill to the beach. The kitchen is stocked with dinnerware, flatware, pots and pans, small appliances including coffeemaker, toaster, mixer, etc. Common spices are also provided. Bed linens, kitchen and bath towels are provided (please bring your own beach towels). There is a Roku/Smart TV with Blu-Ray in the living room. There is also a Roku/Smart TV in the lakeside bedroom with the Queen bed. The cottage is stocked with a number of board games. If the nights are cool there is heat and if it gets too warm there is air conditioning. We upgraded to a high efficency mini-split heating/air conditioning system in 2024, eliminating the need for the window air conditioner. The Hilltop Hideaway is located at the end of the lane so there is almost no traffic. The cottage is positioned at the top of a hill that overlooks the lake, with a front deck that is the full width of the cottage and has railings and latching gates to keep the little ones (kids or pet dogs) contained. The deck has a patio table and chairs, as well as a propane grill. Make use of the fire pit to enjoy evening campfires, roasting hot dogs, and consuming s'mores. The cottage faces to the east and is overlooking the lake toward the undeveloped portion of the lake, this adds the the natural beauty of the view. You will have a private 30’ dock where you can tie up your boat or PWC(s). Please let us know if you will be bringing a boat or PWC. Note - The dock is removed around the end of September or early October and normally put back in the water in early May. There is a very large sandy beach located at the base of the hill directly in front of the cottage with a large swimming area that has a sandy bottom and a gradual slope. In addition, our association has about 900 feet of shared shoreline. The owner's cottage, located next door, has two kayaks, a stand-up paddleboard, two paddle boats, a rowboat, and an Otter Island swim raft available for your enjoyment. Be sure to have a life jacket (we have some life jackets available) for each person when using the kayaks, paddleboard or a boat. Please put the kayaks/paddleboard back on the racks on the dock when you finish using them. Note - The kayaks and paddleboard are put away for the season around mid-October, will be made available again in later April or early May. The swim raft is removed for storage around mid-September and is placed back in service around mid May. The WiFi at the Hilltop Hideaway was upgraded to fiber in the Fall of 2023, speeds are approx 100meg. There are also two Roku/Smart TVs. The Hilltop Hideaway is located in a quiet neighborhood, so we ask for no loud parties, and please observe quiet time after 10pm. Please leave the cottage in the same condition that you found it. We understand that you might want to have friends visit for an afternoon at the lake, please let us know if you will have guests coming for a visit, but at no time should there be more than a total of 8 people (total of registered guests and day visitors). Please observe the 10mph speed limit on the roads/lanes when driving in the Sunny Slope subdivision. A little about us and future plans: We are a family that thoroughly enjoys the lake life. We have been going to the lakes in Steuben County, IN our entire lives and we have owned our cottage, located next door, since 1998. The Hilltop Hideaway is a cute little cottage, it gives you a tiny house experience, but with plenty of outdoor space, and when you are at the lake you are supposed to be enjoying the outside. Between our own cottage and the Hilltop Hideaway we own nearly an acre of land which is highly unusual for lake cottages, many lake cottages are on postage stamp sized lots that are only 40' or 50' wide. We had purchased this cottage in January of 2019 and spent the spring remodeling the cottage, including a new kitchen, remodeled bedrooms, replaced all woodwork, all doors, some windows, and freshly painted the entire interior. Guest access The guests will have the entire cottage. You will also have a private dock for tying up a boat or pwc (or two). Please let us know if you will be bringing a boat so that we can ensure you have dock space to tie up your boat/jetski. There is a well maintained public boat ramp on the north side of the lake, located off of Camden Rd. You will have direct access to the beach and the swimming area, as well as the entire 154 acre spring-fed lake. Other things to note We do welcome your dog as a guest, there is a $50 fee (for the total stay, not per day or per dog, maximum of 2 dogs). Dogs must be kept on a leash when outside, and please do not allow dogs to bark excessively. The cottage is not wheelchair accessible. There are 3 steps on the side deck and 6 steps to enter through the front deck. The doorways to the bathroom and bedrooms are 28" wide.
