Description

Stay at the historic Whiskey Hill Store! A guest suite is now available at the iconic 1926 Craftsman-Bungalow Schoolhouse-turned-store. The room is located in the attached brand new residence, with access through a private entrance. The Mountainview Room features a king bed and a peaceful space to relax. Furnishings and finishes evoke a by-gone era, filled with vintage and antique touches. * This space is not suitable for children. The space Whiskey Hill School was built in 1926 in rural Clackamas County, Oregon. In 1947 five small schools in the area consolidated and construction of the new 91 Grade School began right in front of the schoolhouse. When 91 opened in 1949 Whiskey Hill School was moved across the street, where it began its new life as a store with a small residence, re-named Whiskey Hill Store. Fast forward to fall of 2019, when we purchased the rundown property and began restoring her and building a new, larger residence. Our new residence was designed with an overnight guest suite. A private guest entry opens to a stunning 17-step staircase and upper hall. The stairs and upper hall are shared with the owners. The room locks with its own skeleton key for privacy. Whiskey Hill Store is the only Craftsman-Bungalow schoolhouse in the county and is registered as an historic landmark. Our attached home was designed with this in mind, echoing the style that was chosen in 1926. The interior finishes were hand-crafted by local millers, woodcraftsmen, and us, to reflect the craftsman style. Most of the solid fir and pine were all found locally, being reclaimed from neighbors tearing down old homes and milling trees on their property. The hall floor is reclaimed fir flooring given to us by descendants of past store owners. Antique doors were reclaimed, stripped, and refinished, reinstalling original hardware as we were able. Each room is furnished with repurposed and revitalized vintage and antique furnishings, luxurious bedding, and thoughtful amenities. The room has its own mini-split heating/cooling unit so guests can control the temperature of their room. In order to provide a quiet, relaxing experience for everyone, the room is not equipped with a television. Please come with your favorite book or choose one we have in your room and take it with you. We have dedicated guest Wifi. Please bring headphones or ear buds. We heart CPAPs! We are "CPAP Friendly". What does that mean? Outlets on both sides of the bed (with charging ports!), nightstands on both sides of the bed big enough for the ole CPAP and, last but not least, distilled water! CPAPs are sexy, but sometimes a hassle when traveling. We hope to take the hassle out and keep you healthy. There are a lot gems in our neck of the woods—Whiskey Hill Winery, St. Josef’s Winery, Historic Aurora Colony, bustling downtown Canby, Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival & Winery, Bauman Farm in nearby Woodburn. Woodburn Outlet Mall, and many wonderful eateries within minutes! Our own Whiskey Hill Store is open Monday-Friday 6:30-5, Saturday 8-3, closed on Sundays. We have a full coffee menu. Breakfast is served until 10:30. lunch until 2:30. We also have a gift are filled with store merch, antiques/vintage and locally crafted homegoods, and local wine. You can find a small assortment of groceries along with cold drinks and snacks as well. We hope you will join us soon! Guest access The 17 stairs and hall are shared by guest room and the hosts. You will have access to the private keyless entrance and your private room and bath. We ask that you be mindful of others sharing that hall as the reclaimed fir floors are a bit echoey. We also ask that you keep your door closed when in your room. Thank you During your stay We live here! You will have a phone number to text for absolutely anything you need while you stay with us. If you want to visit or have a tour of the store, we would love that. If you want us to stay as far away as possible, that's fine as well. Other things to note Please let all guests know this is a shared space. The hosts bedroom is upstairs. Please be considerate of your noise level and keep your doors closed when in your room. Thank you!
