Tangle Tower
Tangle Tower
Description
Dating back more than 150 years, Tangle Tower is a distinctive landmark on the shores of the Moray Firth, just a stone's throw from Inverness. This unique building has served many purposes. During the Victorian era, it was known as The Watchtower, later becoming an observation tower during the war and a Coastguard station, where lifeboats were launched into the sea from what is now the kitchen. Relax, and make yourself at home—we hope your stay creates memories to treasure for years to come. The space The heart of Tangle Tower is the ground floor, where you'll find a spacious yet cosy open-plan living area and kitchen-diner, thoughtfully designed for relaxing, dining and spending time together. Inspired by the tower's enviable seafront setting, the interior reflects its rich maritime heritage. Soft coastal tones, natural textures and carefully chosen furnishings evoke the charm of a traditional fisherman's cottage while providing all the comforts of a contemporary holiday home. This space was once used to house and maintain the lifeboat when Tangle Tower served as the local Coastguard station. The striking red sandstone feature wall is original to the building, and if you look closely, you can still see the holes where support rods were inserted to hold the lifeboat during maintenance—a fascinating reminder of the tower's unique past. Whether you're curling up with a good book, planning the day's adventures or unwinding in front of the TV, there's plenty of comfortable seating to help you feel at home. Complimentary Wi-Fi and a BT TV package are also available throughout your stay. The living area flows seamlessly into the kitchen and dining space. The bespoke fitted kitchen, complete with granite worktops, is fully equipped with everything you should need, including a cooker, fridge, dishwasher, washing machine and coffee machine, making it easy to prepare anything from a leisurely breakfast to an evening meal. Outside & Bedrooms The enclosed garden at Tangle Tower offers a peaceful space to relax and enjoy the coastal surroundings. Featuring two generous lawns, charming red brick pathways (reclaimed from the original kitchen and living room floors), and a beautifully restored boat transformed into a unique seating area, the garden is full of character and history. Guests also have access to the large triple garage, where you will find a barbecue available to enjoy during warmer weather alongside a dryer and a small freezer. From the kitchen/diner, you can access the impressive ground-floor master bedroom. Furnished with carefully selected antiques, luxurious linens and elegant touches, this room offers a truly indulgent retreat. The bi-fold doors allow you to enjoy breathtaking views across the water without even leaving the comfort of your bed. Oak flooring and underfloor heating ensure this space remains warm and inviting throughout the year. Family Bathroom The beautifully restored ground-floor family bathroom combines original features with modern luxury. It is accessed via two steps up from the main living area. Victorian floor tiles and original sandstone walls showcase the building’s heritage, while a stunning roll-top bath, spacious walk-in shower, luxury fittings and soft fluffy towels provide the perfect place to unwind. A few carefully chosen maritime details complete the coastal character of the room. First Floor Bedroom Up one level, you will find the second double bedroom, thoughtfully decorated with a calming sea-inspired theme. Featuring luxurious bedding, antique furniture and elegant coastal touches, this peaceful room is designed to help you relax and recharge. The Viewing Room / Bedroom Three Continue to the top floor and discover what has become known as The Viewing Room—a spectacular space that doubles as the third bedroom, thanks to its double sofa bed. With uninterrupted views across the Beauly Firth towards the Black Isle and Kessock Bridge, and stretching out across the Moray Firth beyond, this room truly has the wow factor. Keep an eye out for the local wildlife; herons, otters and pods of dolphins are regular visitors to these waters and can often be spotted close to the shoreline. During the Second World War, this room is believed to have been used as a lookout point by the United States Air Force, and it is easy to understand why, given its remarkable panoramic outlook. Decorated in calming tones with complementary furnishings and soft textures, The Viewing Room is the perfect place to sit back, relax and take in the view—perhaps with a glass of wine as the sun sets over the firth.
