A very large room in a traditional house in the heart of the medina of Fes. High ceilings with traditional painted beams. It has a large 4 poster double bed and 3 single beds. The large en suite bathroom has both a tub and a shower. Air conditioned. A great family room! A baby cot is available free of charge The space Dar Drissi is a traditional house in the ancient Fez Medina. The house is at least 250 years old. It has been extensively restored using traditional crafts to complement its original features, most of which survive intact. It has been converted into a charming guest house with five bedrooms, each with modern en-suite facilities discreetly installed to preserve its original ambience. The house is in the heart of the Medina, close to shops, restaurants and sight-seeing locations. There is a courtyard and a large roof terrace with sheltered seating and views over the Medina and of the Atlas Mountains beyond. Breakfasts are served between 8 and 10am. You are usually asked when you arrive what time suits you best. There is plenty to eat and drink - typically: Coffee or tea, fresh squeezed orange juice, French and Moroccan breads, butter, soft cheese, jam, yogurt; an egg and/or cereal if you would like them. This quadruple bedded room is called the Atlas Salon. It contains three single beds and one large double bed. (We allow a family of 5 to use the room, but otherwise 4 adults only). It has a large en suite bathroom with both a bathtub and separate shower. It is a very large, high-ceilinged room with traditional painted beamed ceilings, carved plaster and stain-glass windows into the courtyard. There is also a private balcony with bench seating. This room would suit a family – or 4 single visitors. A baby cot can be provided at no extra cost. Other rooms are separately listed on this site. The rental price includes breakfast, clean towels and bed linen and daily room cleaning. TVA (VAT) and local taxes are included. Our friendly staff will look after you from your arrival in Fez to your eventual departure. We will assist you with all matters to maximise the enjoyment of your stay with us. We also offer 3-course traditional home-cooked Moroccan evening meals for 220 MAD (approx £18) per person. (We require 24 hours notice). Free Wifi is provided. (Ask the manager for the security key). The courtyard and roof terrace are available throughout the day and evening. You may use the house kitchen during the day to prepare your own food and beverages if you so choose. On your departure day, after checking out of your room you can leave your bags in the house (at your own risk) until your departure later in the day. (There is also a toilet off the courtyard that is available). Our manager Kibir always meets and greets you on arrival, answers all questions and can assist with guides, restaurants etc. He serves breakfast and will ensure that you are fully briefed and happy to venture out into the Medina and beyond. He will even give you his cell phone number in case of emergencies. There is a sense of going back into history as soon as you enter the medina. It has been a thriving city since the late 10th century and its walls are fully intact. This limits its ability to modernise and so provides a fascinating insight into an almost medieval society ..... if you ignore the mobile phones and satellite dishes! There are very few roads and most goods are transported on the backs of donkeys and mules and in hand carts. The shopping streets and 'souks' sell mostly locally produced wares. Many traditional crafts flourish still and you can see the craftsmanship in progress all around the medina. The ancient tannery is a sight not to be missed! Beyond the medina there are other attractions: the new city of Fes is close by. It has refreshingly wide streets, some wonderful fountains and well tended flower borders and can offer a more cosmopolitan range of cuisine than is available in the medina. Day excursions are easy to arrange. For example the nearby city of Meknes or the Roman ruins of Volubilis. Within the Medina the only method of transport is to walk. It is hilly in places so can be tiring if you are not fit. Outside the medina the local red 'petit' taxis are the best means of travel. They are cheap and plentiful - if you can beat the locals to the door handle! The much larger 'grand' taxis can transport you further afield. We can arrange transfers and excursions.
