Located on the banks of the historic James River, step directly out onto the wide PRIVATE sand beach with 180 ft of waterfront access. Fifteen minute free ferry to Jamestown and Williamsburg! Very well equipped cottage and delightful setting. Children over the age of four (4) or not in diapers are welcomed. The cottage has been recently renovated to provide top of the line updates and comfortable amenities. Located on land once owned by John Rolfe, husband of Pocahontas, our Surry cottage is directly across the river from historic Jamestown Island. Our cottage is the perfect get-a-way with a 38 foot long sunporch with three walls of windows to capture views of ships, ferries, tug boats and a menagerie of birds including osprey, eagles, seagulls, cranes, ducks and geese. An occasional dolphin can also be seen if luck is with you. We even provide binoculars for your use. There are two bedrooms - one with a queen bed and the second with a double size antique maple four poster bed. Each bedroom has reading lamps. an alarm clock, flashlight and luggage rack. Wide open windows provide views of either the river or lovely gardens. We provide comfortable mattresses with luxury bed and bath linens, bath toiletries, terry robes, beach towels, bath and kitchen paper products and basic cooking spices. The sunporch is a favorite hang-out day and night and has a daybed plus chaise lounge for leisurely day time naps or night time sleeping. The sun porch day bed (twin bed) at night with the ferry lights gliding back and forth across the river is the owner's favorite sleeping location. Modern design enthusiasts will fall in love with the fully appointed sleek, white IKEA kitchen, original vintage Danish teak furniture, and eye popping fabric throughout the entire cottage. In fact, every single piece of furniture has been reupholstered in 2015 in fabulous vintage inspired designs. Bold color is carried into the bathroom with a European-designed, 50 inch green glass countertop. We have even extended this mid-century revival through to the lighting. Look up to see funky vintage chrome ball Lightolier track lights that you will want to take home with you--but please don't! Dine in style with a sputnik, mid-century-inspired chandelier above the Danish teak dining table. From Laurel mushroom lamps in the bedroom to the one-of-a-kind European industrial orange floor lamp in the living room, every light fixture is vintage and chosen with great care to embody the mid-century spirit. Other high end touches include Waterworks faucet in the kitchen and towel warmer in the bathroom, Hansgrohe bathroom fixtures, Bosch dishwasher, Toto toilet with soft close toilet seat, usb outlets for your electronics, a flat screen TV with DVD player, luxury linens, terry robes, bath toiletries, and basic cooking spices. The central HVAC system provides heat and air conditioning for year round enjoyment. The kitchen has large windows that look out to both the river and the gardens and offers a built-in oven and microwave, gas cooktop, counter depth refrigerator with ice maker, dishwasher, white granite countertops and small appliances such as a Keurig coffee maker, 8 cup Cuisinart coffee maker, French Press, coffee grinder, four slot toaster, hand mixer, blender, and crock pot. Basic cooking spices, oil, vinegar, sugar, tea and coffee are provided as are cooking paper products including plastic wrap, aluminum foil, wax paper, and plastic storage bags. If serious cooking is not on your vacation menu, an endless array of restaurants and take-out deli facilities is available. Information on many "food" and "eating" resources is provided prior to your arrival. But who wants to stay inside? When you are not sightseeing in Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown, Petersburg, Smithfield, visiting Busch Gardens, or enjoying the 15 minute ferry ride, this cottage comes equipped with a range of outdoor activities -- even if all you want to do is sit on the beach or the pier with a fishing pole and a book. Strolling the water's edge in the early morning with a cup of coffee is a favorite pastime of many guests as is sitting and watching the rhythm of the ferries crossing the river. Test your skills at finding shark teeth among the shells in the waterline! Included for your enjoyment are two adult size and one child size kayak, life preservers, fishing poles with tackle box basics, water floats, beach towels, sand toys, beach chairs and a weber gas grill. The Weber gas grill on the beach, right outside the sun porch door, provides easy beach-front meal preparation. The 180 foot pier has a great picnic table at one of the end decks over the river for river dining. The sun porch also has a handy beverage frig for easy access to whatever libations suit you. The entire grounds are at your disposal! From the lush gardens nestled under cypress trees in the back to the wide sandy beaches and 180 foot pier in the front, be prepared to unwind and enjoy all the beautiful waterfront offers, just minutes from Williamsburg and in sight of Jamestown! Someone is usually available 24-7 to help make your stay perfect.I am sometimes available. I love getting to know my guests am happy to chat and offer my two cents about attractions to visit or off-the-beaten path restaurants. That said, if you just want to relax and enjoy your private vacation, don't worry--I won't be beating down your door! But if you ever do need anything, just knock on my door if I'm in town or shoot me a text if I'm not around, and I'll get right back to you. This little beach community is one of the best kept secrets in Tidewater Virginia. These homes all sit on land that was part of the original grant given to John Rolfe (Pocahontas' husband) in the early 17th century. Now these cottages are occupied by a mix of full-time and seasonal owners. This cottage was my parents and has been in my family since 1948, as have the two on either side, which belonged to Aunts and Uncles. I now own the three of them, so you are guaranteed to not be surrounded by grouchy neighbors! A car is necessary. Once you get off the car ferry at Jamestown, Colonial Williamsburg is approximately a five mile drive. Similarly, the historic sites and plantations in Surry, Virginia are all approximately 4-8 miles away. I am new to airbnb, but not new to the vacation rental world. While I build reviews and relationships on this website, I encourage you to view VRBO site and my listing number 352993 and 777232 and read the reviews for my rental cottages right next door that I've been renting for the past eight years. In case you missed it earlier in the details, this cottage is a 15 minute free car ferry ride to Jamestown and five more minutes to Colonial Williamsburg. We are just a block from the ferry, so all you do is drive your car on and enjoy the views and quick ride across the river. The ferry runs 24 hours. During the day it departs every 20-30 minutes, and after 8pm it departs every hour.
