Treehouse in Cornwall
Description
Log Jam is a secluded dog-friendly treehouse, gently raised above the groundvand built around the trees for an immersive woodland escape. Handcrafted from local timber and designed for comfort in every season, it’s a place to slow down, light the fire, and wake to birdsong. Tucked away within our 12-acre Cornish smallholding, this is nature without compromise. The space Log Jam - THE SECLUDED ONE Log Jam is one of three handcrafted retreats at Little Menherion, our 12-acre Cornish smallholding in the middle of everywhere Cornwall. Here, meadow meets woodland, and wild spaces are carefully looked after. Built gently around the trees to minimise its impact on the land, Log Jam feels woven into the woodland rather than placed upon it. Thoughtfully designed for comfort in every season, it offers the magic of a treehouse with the substance of a well-crafted cabin. Inside you’ll find a private shower room with piping hot water, a heated towel rail, and a luxurious composting toilet (think sawdust instead of water to flush). The lounge and kitchen space is warm and welcoming centred around a wood-burner, with a wall of books and games, two generous picture windows, a handmade, well-equipped kitchen and breakfast bar, and a deep chesterfield sofa to sink into. A secret bedroom houses a kingsize cabin bed beneath a large picture window — wake slowly to shifting light and birdsong. Beneath the bed, your dog has their own cosy retreat, and beyond the deck lies over six acres of woodland to explore together. Outside, a generous wrap-around verandah runs the full length of the cabin and around the shower room. There’s a handmade swing seat for two, dining table and chairs, and hanging points for a hammock made for lazy afternoons. Guest access Log Jam sits within its own half-acre of private woodland, separated from the rest of Little Menherion by a gently flowing stream. With just three cabins across the 12 acres, space and privacy come naturally here. The cabin opens onto two distinct outdoor spaces. To one side, just beyond the bedroom window, your private firepit and seating area is perfectly placed for slow evenings and sunset cooking. To the front, a grassy glade stretches out from the deck... an easy place to roll out a picnic blanket or hang a hammock between the trees. Beyond your woodland enclave, you’re free to wander the wider smallholding. Visit the wildlife pond and watch dragonflies skim the surface, explore over six acres of re-wilding meadow and woodland, or arrange a tour of our organic no-dig vegetable garden. You’ll park in your dedicated on-site space and use a wheelbarrow provided to transport your belongings the 250 metres down a leafy lane to the cabin... part of the gentle arrival ritual that helps you leave the outside world behind. Along the way you’ll pass the Wee Shop, stocked seasonally with homegrown fruit and vegetables, freshly baked bread and pastries cooked to order, and a small selection of carefully chosen local & organic essentials. Other things to note Access to Little Menherion is via half a mile of unmade track — please drive slowly and take your time; it’s the first gentle nudge into the slow lane. In summer the Cornish hedges grow enthusiastically (farmers aren’t permitted to cut them during nesting season), so parking sensors may protest a little. The lane is wide enough for standard vehicles — even delivery lorries make it up comfortably. We kindly ask that dogs are kept on a lead in the four acres immediately surrounding the cabins, so that other guests and our resident cat, Pan, can enjoy the space peacefully. There are over six acres of woodland beyond this area where well-behaved dogs with good recall can roam more freely — do keep in mind that wildlife is abundant. Each cabin has one allocated parking space. Little Menherion is home to just three cabins - Log Jam, Round n Round and Tylda Krow - carefully spaced across the land for privacy and quiet. You’re welcome to borrow one of our up-cycled bicycles during your stay, or hire an e-bike if you’d prefer a little assistance. Please just let us know in advance so we can have everything ready for you. There’s also a natural wild water pool in the stream, heated only by the sun and filled only by the rain... the ultimate eco-friendly dip for the brave. Little Menherion sits in the middle of everywhere, Cornwall. It’s a place to hide away and switch off, or use as a base to explore the county’s coastline and culture. St Ives and the Eden Project are each around 45 minutes away in opposite directions, the nearest beaches are about 15 minutes by car, and the harbour towns of Truro and Falmouth are roughly 25 minutes away.
