Beautiful cottage in "Deep France"

This cottage oozes simple rural French charm with modern conveniences and relaxation: a break away - privacy and tranquillity in the heart of Paradis(e). The beautifully restored gite lies in the heart of the country but is close to the lovely historic village of Verteuil, one of the prettiest in Charente, dominated by a magnificent chateau with restaurants, wine cellar, and a small Sunday market. The space This is a two room cottage-double bedroom, mezzanine with twin beds in one large room and a pull-out sofa in the sitting/kitchen room, so can sleep 5, can accomodate another person but thats an extra chargé of 15€ with a mattress or camping bed. It has been recently restored by the current owner with a load of love. The cottage represents history with its old oak beams and stone walls which were brought back to life, making a self-catering gite. It has a large, airy sitting room with dining area and kitchen, giving onto a covered terrace. The terrace in turn leads onto a very large grassy area, with a good-sized above-ground pool, and woodland beyond. The bedroom leads off the sitting room, with a spacious bathroom ensuite and the mezzanine area above. fibre internet and there is a smart TV It forms part of a complex of old farm buildings, two of which are in their original state, with the main house occupied by the English owner, all surrounding a farmyard area where there is ample parking space. It looks like there are roads surrounding the hamlet, but in reality these are untarmacked lanes which have become walking routes through sunflowers, cereals, private vineyards, orchards and woods, with some quaint river crossings. There is wildlife all around: so far, we’ve seen deer, hares, foxes, hedgehogs, racoons (bizarrely), heron, frogs, snakes, swifts, house martins, owls, bats… Wildlife can be heard all around you and the quieter you are, the more you’ll see. Summer season you can rent a tent, with two camping beds with sleeping bags, fun for the kids in the garden. This is an additional 10 euro per night! Th Swimming pool Opens June and closes between September/October, dependant on the Weather. sleeps a family of five, with children not suitable for 5 adults! Guest access Parking is in front of the gite, access to the gite, terrace and garden, pool available and private for guests only (we only have one gite so you have sole access to facilities). Other things to note The cottage is situated in a hamlet which is ideally placed for cycling and walking, surrounded by woods and fields, close to many rivers and lakes which host all sorts of activities from kayaking to stand up paddle boarding. There are many local and well-waymarked cycling and walking routes. The closest shops are 10 minutes away by car, and everything you may need on your holiday is available in the local towns where there are markets and brocantes. The hamlet is located close to Poitiers, Limoges, Angouleme (the home of Bande desinee) and Cognac. It is a couple of hours away from the Loire, Bordeaux and La Rochelle and is only a 15-minute drive from the main road between France and Spain (the N10). This home is suitable for people who are looking for a quiet break away from City life particularly those who like walking and cycling. We have some cycles which can be borrowed for exploring this delightful region - truly La France Profonde. But you definitely need your own transportation to go further afield. Winter stays, everything is included in the price except wood for the wood burner. I purchase from the local farmer, and simply recoup my costs.
