Description

In one of the Vieux-Lille’s signature "courées", this historic 120-year-old house is a perfect refuge for international travelers looking to soak up the local culture. You’ll be just a hop and a skip from Lille’s gastronomic epicenter, La Citadelle park & its accompanying wildlife zoo, or the many shops, sights and attractions of the city center. The space Our brick house is one of 16 in a courtyard (“courée” in Lille) that is as rich in culture as it is in community. You’ll undoubtedly cross paths with a diverse group of residents and home owners - from engineers to students, an eclectic community that is as friendly as they are respectful of each other (and we hope you will, too). An international couple (Franco-Californian) that lived in this house for 10+ years, we’ve taken care to make sure that you’ll feel at home while staying at our place. We’ve stocked the kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and living room with everything you’ll need to cook, have fun, and relax. We live just up the street and are happy to recommend our favorite spots & activities. Enjoy a meal or apéro on the outdoor terrace surrounded by plants and the birds that come to visit - we are nature lovers and zero waste advocates, and we’ve made sure your stay doesn’t come at the expense of our planet: 1. In addition to recycling, we provide compost bins that we give to Jean-Michel who sells produce across the street (19 rue de Jemmapes) that he grows on his farm outside of Lille. 2. We provide a French press and ground coffee that we buy in bulk from Café Méo. 3. We wash sheets & towels using home-made, chemical-free detergent. 4. We buy only sustainable energy from ilek, a French renewable energy provider. 5. Our soap and shampoo are bought in bulk and chemical-free. 6. Our toilet paper is made of bamboo, 100% renewable and sustainable. We love animals, so cats and dogs are always welcome for no added cost. Though we do a thorough clean-up of the house after every departure, we cannot guarantee a 100% animal hair-free home. If you are allergic, please plan accordingly! Guest access For travelers arriving by train, we’re a 15-minute walk from either Lille Flandres & Lille Europe. For travelers arriving by car, there is paid parking on the street and free parking just a few blocks away (limited spaces available). Other things to note About the layout of the house: Ground floor: kitchen + WC First floor: living room with sleeper sofa for 2 + extra single mattress if 5 guests. Second floor: bedroom (bed for 2) + bathroom with shower and sink. As is often the case with old houses in the North of France, Belgium, and the Netherlands, the stairs are a bit steep (and equipped with a handrail). *********************************************** We have a second listing in the same courtyard!
