Description
Morpeth is a small country village in the historic heart of the Hunter Valley. Settled in 1821 it was once the main river port for the region. Enjoy this peaceful and centrally located authentic Morpeth cottage (circa 1890), just 250 metres from the main street and the Hunter River. Stroll cobbled paths to cafes, specialty stores, a Cellar Door and restaurants. Have a traditional pub lunch or a fabulous High Tea or visit Morpeth's award winning UAINE Candles for a unique candle experience. The space Elendar is an authentic Morpeth cottage with period features and an eclectic mix of antiques and modern furnishings as well as photographs and artefacts from our travels. The cottage is able to accommodate 4-6 people with two bedrooms and a sofa bed in the living area. Please advise in advance if you will be needing the sofa bed. The main bedroom has a queen sized French wrought iron bed with French doors opening to the front verandah. It has a luggage rack, hanging space with wooden hangers, a small work desk and antique bentwood chair. The second bedroom has a Hampton's style double bed and a large built-in wardrobe, luggage rack and antique chair. The lounge/dining area is a beautiful open plan room with French Doors that open onto the front verandah. There is also a separate family room with leather lounge and television. Watch a movie, listen to music, read a book or play the guitar. There is also a deck of cards, a variety of books and a basket full of wool for those who like to knit and crochet. The Elendar kitchen has a rustic cottage feel but we have fitted it out with new appliances (such as a Smeg oven) and an abundance of kitchenware for those of you who would like to sample our fabulous local produce. Elendar has one bathroom, a separate toilet and a separate laundry. The sunny front verandah is sheltered and cozy (perfect for morning coffee) and at the back there is an outdoor entertaining area with a new barbeque and a fire pit. Elendar has a very efficient reverse-cycle air conditioning unit in the lounge/dining area (which covers most of the house and the second bedroom). The main bedroom has its own air conditioning unit and both bedrooms have ceiling fans. There is also a very efficient gas heater in the family room for when you're cuddled up in front of the television. Elendar also has off-street parking for up to 3 cars. Elendar is child friendly and pet friendly for small dogs who are not escape artists. The yard is fenced but larger dogs are able to jump the fences easily. Guest access Guests will have private access to the entire home and garden. Other things to note Each booking will receive a welcome pack with local wine, homemade treats and local seasonal goodies. Morpeth is a great place to stay and base yourself if you are coming to explore the Hunter region (or attending one of the many functions that are held here such as weddings). Morpeth is 40 minutes from the wine region and 30 minutes from Newcastle with its beautiful beaches and bustling nightlife. Port Stephens is a 45 minute drive and if you feel like a bit of adventure you could explore the Upper Hunter and Barrington Tops. There are off leash dog beaches and parks locally, in Newcastle and Port Stephens. Our favourite is Bagnall's Beach at Corlette. Accessibility - Elendar is a single storey house that would be able to accommodate an ambulatory person with a disability. Because of the age of the home, the dimensions and layout it would be unsuited to a person in a wheelchair or with significant mobility issues. Pets - Elendar welcomes small dogs. The yard is fenced but not suitable for larger dogs or escape artists. If you are planning on bringing a pet please let us know how many as well as their breed and size.
