Quiet and pleasant place surrounded by nature The Northern Vosges Regional Park: Created in 1975, the Northern Vosges Regional Natural Park covers about a hundred municipalities and two departments, the Lower Rhine and Moselle. It is a fascinating territory, both in terms of the natural environment and the historical, architectural and cultural heritage. The triangle it forms between Bitche, Saverne and Wissembourg has three distinct identities: the forest massif, which covers 65% of the territory, the Lorraine plateau and the Piedmont. The many remains of fortified castles, often perched on rocky spurs, compete in charm and majesty: the Château du Schoeneck, built on a rocky bar overlooking a beautiful forest; the Château de La Petite-Pierre, now the Maison du Parc, built in the 13th century and modernized by Vauban; the Château de Fleckenstein, a truly impregnable citadel dating from the 12th century. Among these many masterpieces, most of which are classified as Historic Monuments, you can also admire the remains of the Lichtenberg fortress, the castles of Reichshoffen, Wittschloessel, Wasenbourg and Loewenstein. The region is also distinguished by its expertise in glass and crystal, highlighted by three internationally renowned glass sites, part of the Étoiles Terrestres network: the Lalique Museum in Wingen-sur-Moder; the Grande Place, Saint-Louis Crystal Museum; the Meisenthal glass site. Between chamois, deer, wild boar, but also wood grouse, even lynx, the fauna is particularly rich. We travel through these wide open spaces on the countless hiking trails, which have no less than 2,600 kilometers of marked routes! This exceptional natural heritage has earned the Northern Vosges Regional Natural Park the European Eden Prize ("European Tourist Destination of Excellence") and the rare label of "World Transboundary Biosphere Reserve" awarded by UNESCO.
