Beautiful designer 1910s industrial conversion
Description
One of Britain’s most stylish rental homes – Elle Decoration. A 1900s engine house converted over four years into an extraordinary home full of character, natural light and hand-collected vintage treasures from Lisbon, California and Morocco. 3 generous bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a double-height kitchen & sunken snug with projector and wood burner. A peaceful walled garden with table & chairs for six. 3 miles from Bury St Edmunds with its award winning restaurants and cafes. Dogs very welcome. The space The Engine House sits in a quiet, secluded spot that feels genuinely apart from the world, yet it’s just 3 miles from Bury St Edmunds with its award-winning restaurants and cafes. The house is located in an area which was once part of the grounds of Barton Hall, The Engine House was built in the early 1900s to supply electricity to the stately home, the house was renovated and extended in 2018. The result is a huge double-height, open-plan main space, polished concrete floors with underfloor heating, a modern extension with glazing floods the space with light and looks out onto your own private walled garden. The carefully curated furnishings are the product of 15 years of collecting: flea markets in Lisbon, Northern California and Morocco, alongside carefully sourced pieces from eBay and favourite antique shops. In cooler months, the sunken snug (see photo of the 3 steps down) is the heart of the house: woodburner, projector, board games and WiFi, hunker down and just enjoy the interior. In the summer and spring head out the front door for beautiful local walks or if you fancy a swim, drive 20 minutes to a favourite river spot. You’re spoilt for choice with great local restaurants or if you want to stay home, the kitchen is fully equipped and genuinely lovely to cook in. There are three bedrooms: two doubles, and a third bedroom that can be configured as twin singles or with a double bed. One bedroom is on a mezzanine – a beautiful elevated space. Both the third bedroom and the downstairs bedrooms have black outs at the windows, for the mezzanine bedroom eye masks are provided. The main bathroom has a generous tub; the second has a walk-in shower. Outside: an enclosed, private walled garden with dining furniture. Utterly peaceful, a perfect retreat. You’ll likely hear owls and muntjac deer frequently wander up the track just outside the house. Bikes can be stored in the courtyard. Fresh eggs are available from an honesty box down the lane. Guest access The entire space with its own private garden are just for you. Other things to note Super easy access to keys, whatever time you arrive.
