The Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ have stories and legends about living in the Ucluelet area dating back as far as 4,300+ years ago. Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ also experienced the residential school system, along with individuals from the other Nuu-Chah-Nulth nations. One of Nuu-chah-nulth’s primary teachings is ‘Hishuk ish is’ awalk’ or ‘Everything is one.’ The land and the sea gave them food and supported their livelihood and culture and we continue to honour that spirit here today. THE SPACE: From the Parking, a short walk passed the main house will take you between the greenhouse and chicken coop (watch out for the odd chicken poopsies!) and into a well lit forest path that leads to the cob house. The walls of the house are made of cob, a mixture of sand, clay and straw, shaped by hand to create unique features such as curved walls, rounded shelves incorporating driftwood or upcycled bottles, clay artwork, etc. Inside, you will find the main living area with the custom kitchen with a gas oven, wood stove, a dinner table, couch seating, and a beautiful and warm cork floor. A few steps away from the back door is a full size outhouse with beautiful cedar rafters and skylights, a good ol' Vintage Clawfoot tub (it's just old not dirty!) with shower, a toilet and 360 views into the forest without any neighbours. Towels are provided along with Oneka shampoo, conditionner, body wash and lotion, which are all Certified organic ingredients & 100% natural, vegan and biodegradable. All our cleaning products are natural too and from local businesses we love: Mint Cleaning and The Den Refillery. Upstairs is the open sleeping loft, offering a comfortable queen bed, a peekaboo view on the inlet right from your pillow, a wooden burl sink and small toilet (number ones only up here!!) just for evening or morning fresh ups. You can also find a small work space with a desk looking out at the trees and birds that visit us. We love this place and put so much labor and love into building it. We wanted to create something with a smaller impact, using as much natural and recycled materials as possible and in harmony with Nature. It is rustic but very unique, cozy and makes you feel connected with the wilderness. We hope you will enjoy it as much as we do! Other things to note The UPSTAIRS LOFT has a lower ceiling, definitely will need to crouch a little bit in certain spots for taller people so please watch your head.! The most used area is higher but just be careful and use extra caution on the lower side if you are tall. The STAIRCASE to the Loft is STEEP! Please Always Use the railing going up or down and go slow. Guests must be comfortable with going up and down steep stairs SAFELY. Please request in advance if you wish to use the Wood Stove for fire safety reasons. We are close to the main road going into town. It is not a highway or is anything overwhelmingly loud at all, but for guests who are hypersensitive to sounds at night, we recommend bringing earplugs just in case. We provide some as well.
