The green garden is a small paradise in an otherwise packed city center. Totora Sofa: The sofas you are going to sit on are not just furniture — they are woven from totora (cattail reeds) harvested on the sacred waters of Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world. Our home’s former owner was a young explorer and local guide who once accompanied the legendary oceanographer Jacques Cousteau during his expeditions to Lake Titicaca. During that historic journey, she met the Aymara master boat-builders who had crafted the famous totora reed vessel used by Thor Heyerdahl for his legendary transoceanic voyages. Deeply inspired by their ancestral knowledge, she asked these same artisans to create something unique — not a boat, but living furniture. Using the exact techniques once employed to build ocean-crossing reed ships, they wove these sofas by hand, transforming an ancient maritime tradition into beautiful, functional works of art. Today, you are literally sitting on a story that connects the Andes, legendary explorers, and one of humanity’s oldest living technologies — a quiet but powerful reminder that this home carries the spirit of Lake Titicaca within its walls. Inca Wall Our living room preserves the final remaining terrace wall of Qoricancha, the most sacred Inca temple dedicated to the Sun God Inti, with walls covered in gold and interior courtyards filled with precious metal statues and ceremonial spaces The very ground beneath your feet once formed part of its agricultural terraces — allowing you to live, quite literally, on ancient Inca history. This is not just a place to stay. It is a place to feel Cusco’s origins.
