This tiny stone-house was build around 1950, as a stable for sheep and horses, within a plot of fir trees and red grape roots. With tons of personal demanding work, it finally became a small lovely nest. And now it is time to share it. The space WHAT IS Dendrocopos Medius, is the Latin name of the little woodpecker bird, which you will definitely hear hitting the trees trunk into the forest , and sometimes even on the trees on the plot just by the house ! It is designed by the host's architectural brand, known as 157+173 designers, with emphasis on the simplicity and clarity of the interior with balanced mix of minimal aesthetic with strong traditional touches . ΤΗΕ HOUSE The stone built house is on common space, with a double bed on the roof and a futon mattress on the ground level, which can easily become another double bed. The kitchen is equipped with a double gas cooker to prepare your summer meals, but an electric stove is not available . There is a fridge under the bench. The kitchen is equipped with all necessaries to cook. The wc is small, but includes all you need, within a Terra-cotta style environment. There is a water boiler for a hot shower / hot water for dishes, which needs to be turned on from the main electrical switches and left on for at least 30 minutes, for the water to heat up enough. The outer balcony has a great long view over the whole village, as this is the last house before the forest begins. THE PLOT The plot has a circular path around the house, which goes though plenty of trees that live on site and even passes by an impressive private fig tree forest, with 30 years old trees of more than 10 meters high, the ones that the previous owner planted as baby trees ! Small "incidents " are happening while walking on the path. There is a barbecue place and external cooking gas blowtorch, a small piazza with a coffee table under the trees, a hammock into the private fig tree forest, an external cold water shower. THE CONCEPT Dendrocopos Medius is a quiet nest into a natural environment. It aims to make people connect with nature the most, but also connect to each other. This is why, it intentionally lacks of two of the main distractions of the urban living, a TV and an Internet connection. No TV , No WiFi. Really. ( there is a good 4G signal though, you can always use your mobile data when needed ) THE SURROUNDINGS Dendrocopos Medius is a private extra quiet sanctuary into the nature, but also, also aways only 2 minutes from the main village, reached with a really nice walk through restored traditional local architecture buildings, small farms, vegetable gardens. Arnaia village ,offers all you may need for a short stay. A small market and a supermarket, two tavernas, a pastry shop, two coffee shops, two museums, two banks, and various places to buy other stuff you probably never need, like tools ( if you wish to shortly immerse yourself into agriculture ). THE FOREST The house is the last one of the village and a magnificent forest starts just on your feet. Cholomontas mountain is a place with no heavy human activity, pure and quiet. There are endless mud roads to walk on, or just enter trails and untrodden ground, to walk on a soft mattress of leaves. Birds and other small animals are all around , together with mushrooms, wild berries, chestnuts and moist soil, all to set an experience of an amazing walk into the sounds and smells of the forest. THE SEA - BE EVERYWHERE IN 20 MINUTES DRIVE Arnaia village may be located on around 700 meters above sea level, but it is only 20 minutes away from fantastic sea waters in Pyrgadikia or Gomati, or if you double your drive to 40 minutes, you can reach even more amazing waters around Vourvourou, down to the begining of the amazing second leg of Chalkidiki Peninsula, and from there, really everywhere around. COME Experience rural life conditions, activate yourself and integrate yourself into an environment close to nature, leaving aside the ease of your everyday life in the city. If you are a nature explorer or a quiet seeker, or an open spirit, Dendrocopos Medius is a place to love. x Guest access Head to the water reservoir and just park by it when you cross by. The house is just underneath. There may be a car parked there, in front of the big house ( this is not our house ). Avoid the car and open the fence to enter. The house is just in front, where the rusted fence door is. Alternatively, you can enter the house from the road below the house, if you park your car where the road ends, to a large house, and walk up. You will have to check on maps to understand this better. Keys will be on the key safe-box, on the left of the main yard door of the plot. Code will be provided upon your booking. Other things to note SAFETY -Guests are not allowed to operate the wood stove for safety reasons. -Setting up a fire, is not allowed on any area of the plot. -This house exists on a natural rural environment, together with bugs and small animals. Although the house has been de-wormed, one may still experience their presence at times, even within the house. -The balcony includes no railings, with a 1.5 meters distance to the ground. Please be careful and use under your own responsibility. -Water heater has to be turned off after use, at all times. -When away, house door and plot gate have to be locked.
