As you walk down the crystal steps to Cuttlefish Cottage, feel the pressures of everyday life slide away. This hand crafted, self contained building inspires relaxation and wellness. An eco-friendly dwelling with mud -brick walls and garden roof, built with low-toxic materials and sustainability in mind. Enjoy an urban oasis with extensive gardens and abundant bird life. Local shops and restaurants are a few minutes walk and beaches a 20 minute stroll away. Please note, shoes off inside The space The building is self contained and designed to work with the seasons. Natural ventilation and a focus on capturing the wonderful Northern sunlight make it extremely comfortable. The use of thick mud-brick walls with natural clay paint and the garden-covered roof ensure a deep sense of calm and quiet within the open living space. The main bedroom has a shady private courtyard and large screened doors allow great air flow. For food lovers, the large kitchen, induction stove, fridge and pantry will allow time to cook delicious meals that can be enjoyed on the huge North facing deck. This is all set in the midst of extensive gardens with large grassed areas. We love sharing this special space with guests who will enjoy the property & help us care for this unique building & beautiful land. Guest access Please note the property is behind our family home. Whilst Cuttlefish Cottage is your domain during your stay, you may see the family in the backyard (or occasionally a neighbour). Our backyard is also home to ‘Popes Produce’ market garden, you may see Sarah out & about. Please be mindful when in the market gardens and stay on the paths. If you would like to invite other people to our property, please consult with us first. Thank you. Other things to note Cuttlefish Cottage has been hand built using recycled, reclaimed and non-toxic materials wherever possible - sustainability is at the core of everything we do. To this end, you'll find recycling, compost (and rubbish) receptacles under the kitchen sink. The hot water is solar powered, however there is a booster switch for cold cloudy days. Fans are used for cooling the space and passive solar design helps keep temperatures very mild all year round. The furniture is also primarily vintage, salvaged & repaired.
