Description

Düsternbrook Guest Farm (Lodge), a family business, is the first guest farm in Namibia (1961). The farm is 14,000 ha in size with the typical wild species of the savannah: giraffes, oryx, kudu...15 different wild species. Rooms from very simple to upscale with DBB and activities: cheetah and leopard ride, game drive, early mountain ride and horseback rides. Pool, restaurant (limited a la carte), various hiking trails. Windhoek is (50 km), the int. airport is 90 km away. Transfer service. The space The old farmhouse from 1908 made of natural stone has been carefully renovated to preserve the flair of the colonial period. The main farmhouse has a very nice breakfast terrace with a view and also rooms for dinner. Furthermore, there are so-called lapas (dining area) in the African thatched roof safari style, which accommodate other dining opportunities depending on the season. The accommodations consist of several individual houses distributed in the courtyard. All distances to the main house, pool or reception are within walking distance of 30 m to 100 m. The reception is centrally located to all buildings. In addition to check-in and check-out, it is also the central meeting point for all activities. There is also Wi-Fi, a good coffee or cappuccino and other drinks. The colonial house is our 2-star accommodation and we call it our family unit, once from the price, but also because two room units have more than 2 beds (rooms 5 and 6) and room 4 is a single room with a queen-size bed. The house dates back to the colonial period and has been carefully renovated to preserve the charm of times past. Also, I tried as far as possible to use furniture from the time as furnishings... some say the furniture is old-fashioned without knowing that is the intention to let the antique pieces there come into their own. Each room has a hot water kettle for "early morning tea or coffee." All rooms are without stairs and in front of the house there is a small garden with a shared porch overlooking the countryside. Distance to the main house and pool are 50 m and to the reception 20 m. Some rooms even have Wi-Fi through the reception signal. Parking is available very close to the courtyard. Room 5 consists of two rooms. The large bedroom (25 sqm) has a double bed with 2 mattresses and the small room (10 sqm) has only a single bed. Both rooms share the same bathroom with shower. 3 people can sleep here. Guest access Guests can access all public spaces: breakfast and dinner room in the main house, dinner room in the closed or open grass roof covered lapa (local: dining room), or the open front room of the reception: there are drinks, coffee or cappuccino with coffee adapted to our water and of course this is a popular Wi-Fi room. Except for reception and check-out, it is the meeting point for all trips and activities. Furthermore, the pool has public access and all other places in the courtyard except the workshop, for security reasons. But feel free to walk around the house, enjoy the view or take a look at our beautiful horse stable. Other things to note We find this farm is not suitable as a so-called stopover, i.e. arriving late and leaving early. When I evaluate the feedback, it always says that if we had known that, we would have liked to stay one or more days longer because there is a lot to see and do here. With paper alone, you just can't get the atmosphere transported so easily. That's all I can say here. Our location opposite Windhoek and the airport is almost perfect at the beginning to arrive or at the end of the trip to process all the threads again and to end the trip nicely.
