The Carriage House is the second floor of our cedar stables that was turned into an apartment years ago. It was completely redone this spring and professionally decorated to make it a cozy + luxe retreat with views to die for. While we no longer use the stables to house animals we still keep a few head of cattle + sheep in the pasture for your enjoyment. The wall of windows along the back of the apartment offer you the most stunning views of the surrounding farmland and an unforgettable sunrise. When furnishing the apartment our goal was to keep the cozy countryside feel but with an elevated, designer touch. The final result (thanks to a well-know local interior designer who also happens to be a good friend) was a beautifully done English-Cottage style with high-end furnishings from Pottery Barn, Arhaus, Crate & Barrel and more. The bedroom hosts a king bed with luxurious bedding, hand painted wallpaper, and a cozy sitting area perfect for curling up with a good book. In the living room you’ll find a gorgeous navy Pottery Barn sofa and a Samsung frame TV (for those of us who weren’t familiar with the concept prior- the artwork hanging between the two gold sconces is *actually* a smart TV!). There’s great wifi so you can log into all your favorite subscriptions. There’s an open floor plan so the living room flows nicely into the dining room and kitchen. The dining table seats four comfortably, and the bar has comfortable bar stools for two. The kitchen is well stocked with an electric tea kettle, blender, plenty of cookware + flatware, etc. And since we know there are lots of opinions about how to make your coffee we’ve added a Keurig duo coffee maker (so you can brew grounds or use K-cups during your stay). Our favorite touch of all is the bar counter along the far wall with all the tools + glassware you’ll need to mix up your favorite drink. In the summer months we suggest a mojito made with a few sprigs of fresh mint from the garden (we’re getting to that in a second). Finally, in the bathroom you’ll find a small tile shower, plush linens, and great smelling soap, shampoo + conditioner. Now for the very best part- the exterior. The wall of windows in the main living area and bedroom give you the most beautiful view of the acres of surrounding farmland. Some days you see cows grazing in the fields just next to the patio, other days you’ll be able to watch the farmer working in the field with his work horses and plow, and every morning you’ll be greeted with the most spectacular sunrise. We’ve also added a patio area around the back of the carriage house (bordering the fields) and there you’ll find comfortable outdoor furniture, a bistro table + chairs, propane fire pit, and a propane grill for nights when you decide to grill up steaks or burgers (may we suggest visiting Stoltzfus Meats, the local butcher, to source great dinner options for these occasions). It’s secluded by a row of privacy bushes for ultimate privacy- with the exception of the cows grazing nearby ;). The view out the French doors of the apartment is of our garden and in the summer months you’re welcome to select fresh herbs or vegetables to add to your dinners (more instructions in the welcome booklet at arrival). Next to the carriage house you'll find the pasture, home to our resident longhorns, horse, and sheep. Everything pictured is for your use during your stay. Please keep in mind that this is a small part of a larger property, and we kindly ask that you respect our privacy and stay within the designated areas as we will yours. You have your own private parking area. - Several notes: We do have an exterminator on retainer, but because it is in a rural area we ask that you please keep doors and windows closed at all times so we can keep the insects outside (where they belong). :) This is an authentic farm stay which is what makes it so charming, but this also means that very occasionally (like 2x a year) you will have the privilege of smelling true country air (aka when the farmer "fertilizes the fields"). The apartment is located on the second floor so you will need to do stairs to enter/exit. Because of the cabinet design we were unable to add a dishwasher in the kitchen. It's not listed in the amenities either but we just want to mention it here as well to make sure that you have a heads up in advance. Access is with a key/lockbox. Note from Kayla: I've been hosting multiple Airbnbs in the area for several years, and this one is my favorite for several reasons but mostly because it's located on the property where I grew up. It truly is one of the most beautiful settings in Lancaster County.
