Our goal is to welcome only happy guests who are fully satisfied with their choice. Write to us: we'll be happy to answer! Other things to note ❣Dear guests, we are happy to welcome you to our place and welcome you to one of the most fascinating cities in Sicily. Catania is a perfect blend of history, culture, good food and sea... and awaits you to be discovered! 📜 A bit of background Founded by the Greeks in 729 BC, Catania has grown at the foot of Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe. Over the centuries it has been dominated by Romans, Arabs, Normans, and Spaniards. After the devastating earthquake of 1693, it is reborn in Sicilian Baroque style, now protected by UNESCO. ⸻ 📍 What to see absolutely • Piazza del Duomo: the beating heart of the city with the Cathedral of Sant'Agata, patron saint of Catania, and the Elephant in lava stone, symbol of the city. • Via Etnea: the main street, perfect for walking, shopping, and enjoying a coffee overlooking Etna. • Roman Amphitheater and Greek-Roman Theater: fascinating testimonies of ancient Catania. • Benedictine Monastery: one of the largest monastic complexes in Europe, now a university, rich in history and architecture. • Ursino Castle: medieval fortress with exhibitions and temporary exhibitions. ⸻ 🌋 Etna: an adventure between fire and sky We recommend a hike on Etna, even just to the Rifugio Sapienza. From there you can take the cable car or book a guided tour to explore craters and lunar landscapes. Wear comfortable shoes and bring a jacket, even in the summer! ⸻ 🛍 Shopping and local markets • Via Etnea & Corso Italia: for boutiques, big brands and elegant shopping. • Pescheria Market: near Piazza Duomo, an authentic experience among fish, fruit, spices and street food stalls. • Piazza Carlo Alberto Fair: the largest market in the city, colorful and folkloric, open every morning. ⸻ 🍽 What to eat in Catania You can't leave without trying: • Arancini (yes, in Catania it is called "arancini"!) • Pasta alla Norma, with fried aubergines and salted ricotta • Granita and brioche for breakfast, in many flavors: almond, pistachio, lemon... • Cannoli and cassatelle with fresh ricotta You'll find all this and other Sicilian delicacies at our barrel restaurant next to the room! ⸻ 🧭 Action Items • Public transportation is useful but sometimes irregular. If you can, you prefer to walk downtown or use taxi/app. • Beware of the ZTL (Limited Traffic Zones) in the historic center: ask us if you have any doubts. • Need a hand or advice on restaurants, excursions or anything else? Write to us, we will be happy to help you! ⸻ In our village there is a disco by the sea. If you think the music may bother you, please ask in advance if, on the day of your reservation, there is music entertainment and how long it will be active. Have a great stay in Catania! Enjoy the city, the food, the sun... and your home away from home. Hope to see you soon!
