New Communities' main campus, Resora - located on the Cypress Pond Plantation property - is a poetic place where meditation and reflection are the heart of the restorative escape from everyday life. Tucked in the midst of a rich water land oasis on a 1,600+ acre farm, this destination is a place where the land becomes a retreat, the mind can relax and the body can refresh. Resora provides an experience of nature while bearing witness to farming innovation and research, and Civil Rights history. Now this is 'glamping' at its best! This two bedroom retreat features beautiful hardwood flooring throughout and an open floor plan showcasing a luxurious gourmet kitchen with granite countertops and bar seating, a dining and living room area. Steps away from the cottage is a large pond that is the perfect spot for fishing, writing, reflecting and relaxing. The cottage is named after Mr. Monroe Gaines, a founding board member of the New Communities Land Trust in 1968. He was a faithful member that never missed a Monday night meeting, regardless of his long hours on the job. Monroe was a good friend and beloved colleague of Charles and Shirley Sherrod -- the founders of New Communities -- and the movement work in Southwest, Georgia. This stay also includes access to: --walking trails --a working farm, with pecan and satsuma orchards, and a muscadine vineyard --wildlife and natural vegetation --an 85 acre pond with bass, brem and other occasional wild life. Ospreys have a yearly nesting presence in one of the large cypress trees in the center of the pond. Fishing at the pond is allowed, but gear is not provided by the host. Located at the center of Southwest Georgia, our facilities are less than 5 miles from the Albany Regional airport and a 10 minute drive to downtown Albany, GA, which offers a wide range of outdoor activities, dining, shopping, the arts, including a rich cultural heritage tied to African and Native American culture and the Civil Rights Movement. Please see our list of featured experiences offering tours of New Communities and local farms including opportunities for fishing, cooking and learning the history of the Albany Civil Rights Movement. Fishing at Resora must be pre-arranged through the tour site. Your hosts are available via email 24 hours a day. Security is onsite during daytime and evening hours and can address any concerns or questions with the property. Airbnb has made a donation to New Communities, in support of its work to empower Black farmers across Southwest Georgia.
