Delightful Railway Van

The Old Railway Van is situated on Durn Hill Farm’s hillside, with wonderful views over the surrounding landscape, two miles inland from historic Portsoy and it’s 17thC harbour. The space It is converted from a 1935 LNER goods van and has a fully fitted kitchen, double bed in a wooden ‘cave’, a farm house wood fired cooking stove we brought over from Sweden, and a bathroom with the coach roof from an old wooden yacht. The original curved roof makes for a tranquil for a tranquil space. It sleeps 2 + a child on request. Sorry no dogs due to sheep farming. It is equipped with water and electricity. In front is a deck and a fire pit for cooking on whilst enjoying the lovely views. The cabin has been built using as many recycled materials and objects as possible – part of the ‘circular ‘ economy. The kitchen cupboard door dates from 1803 and comes from Fordyce Old Kirk. The drawers are from the haberdasher’s shop where the famous Portsoy Ice cream Shop now is. The post holding up the wind break is part of the parcel weighing mechanism from the long gone Portsoy Railway Station. And there is much more besides. Guest access Parking is by the cabin. Our whole hillside is free to roam on, except that we have DHFarm down hill mountain bike track running through the north side of our forestry. Please avoid walking on the bike track as riders come down fast! From the very top of the hill, where traces of a hill fort remain, there are spectacular views north over the Murray Firth and Easter Ross, south as far as Benachie near Aberdeen, and east into the Cairgorms. Other things to note There are woodland walks from the cabin front door round out Forrest and to the top of Durnhill.
