Located on the east side of Flagstaff this cabin is within the city limits, all the conveniences of home, yet has the rustic charm of a woodsy cabin. Walk out the front door to enjoy the hiking trails of Mount Elden, the Arizona Trail and Picture Canyon Trail. A great jumping-off point for your trips to the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Antelope Canyon, Wupatki National Monument, Walnut Canyon and all that Northern Arizona has to offer! We have this listed for up to 4 people but it would be very tight accommodations for more than two or three adults. This is a small one-bedroom cabin. There is a daybed w/trundle in the living area and a comfortable queen in the bedroom Please note, there is no smoking allowed in the house but there has been smoking in the past; there are no pets allowed in the house but there have been pets in the house in the past. This guesthouse, located on the property of our primary residence, is often used by family members who have severe respiratory issues; for this reason absolutely no animals or smoking are permitted in the cabin. The house is in a residential neighborhood close to Highway 89, but it is set back, off the road, with views of Mount Elden and Sheep Hill. While the cabin is small-ish, it has a nice covered porch which adds additional three-season living space. There is a small stacked washer dryer set. It is adequate for light loads of approximately 10 lb, if you have heavy items please use the laundromat at the park Santa Fe Shopping Center. There is Wi-Fi (wireless) internet in the cabin, while we subscribe to the best service available to our location; in the town of Flagstaff internet outages can occur without notice , it is possible that internet may not be available at times. Speed and availability of Internet service is not guaranteed. Cable television is available through an online streaming service on a Roku streaming device. You can login to your personal streaming accounts on the Roku, there is also an auxiliary HDMI port if you want to connect your streaming device. We also get five or six broadcast channels over the antenna. I would say most houses in Flagstaff do not have air conditioning, but we do get some warm afternoons.....For this reason, we install a small window air conditioner in the cabin during the summer months. This will keep the bedroom comfortable on those days when it gets a little hot. In a couple of the photos you may see a wood daybed and a gas stove in the background. As a result of great guest input we have opted to swap these items out. The wood daybed has been replaced with a new daybed and the gas stove has been removed in favor of an electric stove. We are approximately 2 miles away from Flagstaff Mall, Safeway/Starbucks, Harkins Theaters, and other shopping. We are approximately 15 minutes down Route 66 from downtown Flagstaff and Northern Arizona University. We are approximately an hour and 15 minutes down Highway 89 from the Desert View Visitor Center at the south rim of the Grand Canyon. I personally prefer entering the Park from this entrance because the flow of traffic is generally lighter when starting from the East entrance. We are approximately 2 hours from Antelope Canyon. This cabin is also an excellent jumping-off point if you're going to make the trip to the north rim of the canyon. The fireplace you see in the pictures is not operable, the chimney is blocked off and insulated; no fires are permitted in the fireplace. There are two wood fence rails with red reflectors mounted to them by the entrance to the cabin please park here. It is important to never block other residents access to their homes for even a moment. This is a small guest house on our property, our house is the green house you may see in some of the background of some of the pictures. We offer self check-in and self check-out, there is no need to meet with us in person. We will send directions to the cabin the day before your check-in and will send a keycode for the front door shortly before your check-in time. We will write you through AirB&B messaging. If you will not have access to the AirB&B app please write us well in advance to make other arrangements . Dawn and I both work so we may not see you during your stay but we are always available via text or telephone to answer any questions or promptly address any issues. We are in the 'Smokerise' neighborhood of East Flagstaff. It is a residential suburban neighborhood this is not a rural cabin . We are just off of Highway 89 And close to the Interstate 40 Country Club exit . There is great hiking and mountain biking right out the front door of this cabin. Just behind the house, if you follow the trail on the north side of Sheep Hill, you will hook up with the epic Arizona Trail and trails through nearby Picture Canyon and the Rio de Flag. Across Highway 89 you'll find an extensive network of trails all over Mount Elden that you could follow as far as the inner basin if you were up for that kind of hike! Also across 89 is the Elden Pueblo Archaeological Site which has a really informative self-guided walk you can take. Walnut Canyon National Monument is just a few miles away and Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument/Wupatki National Monument is about ten or twelve miles north. We love Wupatki, I think it's often overlooked but should not be missed! The road through these National Monuments is quite scenic; a great day trip if you're traveling with folks who are not up for extensive hikes. If you're doing a driving trip of this area, I would recommend starting at the north entrance and working your way south through the two parks. The city of Flagstaff hosts 'Movies on the Square' on Saturday nights during the summer which is a great family event. All year long Flagstaff does the 'First Friday Art Walk' downtown, which is really fun to do, even during the winter. Of course that's just a few nearby suggestions... there is a lot to do and see in Northern Arizona! There's a bus stop approximately half mile down the road at the Maverick gas station. Uber and Lyft are also available in the area.... And of course great hiking and biking right out the front door on the Flagstaff Urban Trail System! Our family calls this The Shepherd's Cabin, it is located between Mount Elden and Sheep Hill on the east side of Flagstaff. What we have been able to find by word of mouth is that this cabin was built in the late 1800s as a temporary residence for Shepherds who were tending flocks in the area; at the time this was far removed from the town of Flagstaff. It has been nicely updated but still features the rustic charm of a well-built fieldstone cabin. Our friends and family have enjoyed staying here through the years and we are thrilled to offer it to those looking for unique and historic lodging through Airbnb. Please check out all the pictures, read the description and don't hesitate to write with any questions! Thank you Ed and Dawn
