This is our family homestead and retreat, with a tree-lined driveway thru our work-in-progress permaculture food forest that opens up into rolling organic hay fields and epic ranch vistas in every direction as you approach our private natural horse facility hidden on the High Prairie. We have an outdoor arena, vintage pole barn and system of tracks and pastures for our small horse herd. You'll be greeted by a horse whinny as you pull up to the barn, perched amid wide-open pastures and visited by grass-fed neighboring cattle, wild elk, turkeys, foxes, owls, deer, and sometimes bald eagles! Harvest fresh herbs and wild edibles, wander down to the pond surrounded by native oak trees or bike straight out the driveway to Dead Mountain or coast down to town to shop the farmers market or grab a pint at the pub. Inside is a bright studio space furnished with a handmade queen bed platform and brand new memory foam mattress, comfy chairs, custom-made and reclaimed lighting fixtures, a mini-fridge, electric kettle and coffee counter. The floor of the main room/bedroom has new carpet, so we ask guests to please remove shoes or muddy boots at the door, and hang drippy rain gear outside. Also inside is your full private bathroom with a deep stainless sink and hot shower, and all the amenities (the cabin water heater is small, so you'll want to conserve your hot water for indoor showers). A short 40-second walk toward the ridge takes you to a seasonal outdoor shower under a wild cherry tree with an on-demand propane water heater for those long, luxurious showers after a day of adventuring. Outside on your covered patio, harvest herbs for cooking or mixing cocktails in your outdoor glamp-kitchen, outfitted with a well-loved two-burner propane camp stove, stainless pots and pans, sharp knives, a double concrete sink with a seasonal cold well-water faucet, ample counter space and of course, party lights! WIFI inside and out with enough speed to stream video calls for working remotely. Guest access Other than passing through to access your guest space, please do not enter or wander in the homestead/food-forest area around the homes without an invitation. Feel free to enjoy the outdoor space around the cabin and barn and to visit the pond in the oak grove. However, most of the fields are in standing hay from May until we cut and bale it in late June or early July, and we ask that you do not venture beyond the pond and try to follow the established/mowed paths to avoid trampling down the grass - it has to stand up tall for us to be able to cut it and process it into our organic horse hay! Do not enter the horse barn or feed the horses* without permission - some are on special diets to protect their health, and this is also for your own safety. In general on a farm or ranch, always leave gates the way you found them - but if you see one open that looks like a hazard or mistake, please let us know asap! Both driveway gates must be kept closed at all times to keep the deer out of our gardens and to keep the horses off the road in case one ever gets loose (this has never happened, but better safe than sorry!). *If you would like to meet the horses or schedule a somatic experience, just let me know. Other things to note GROCERIES IN OAKRIDGE & AREA We have only one small grocery store (Ray's Food Place) and a few quickie-mart style markets/gas stations, and a great little Farmers Market on Sundays from 2-5pm (at 48137 E. 1st St. in Uptown Oakridge on 1st. Street). To find larger grocery chains and big box stores to stock up on supplies, you'll want to go to Eugene (1 hr west) or stop in Bend on your way here (if you are coming from the northeast). My favorite one-stop shop is Market of Choice (like a wholefoods, only less expensive and an Oregon business). PHONE SERVICE & INTERNET Spotty cell signal - best is Verizon but only 1-2 bars. T-Mobile = zero bars. Zip. Won't work for hotspots either, although a recent guest with AT&T is able to get 1 bar of 5g to make calls and go online... WIFI is accessible from the cabin, with best signal out on the patio/kitchen area. QUIET HOURS 9pm-9am. Our homestead thanks you! NO ADDITIONAL GUESTS - the cabin can accommodate a maximum of 2 guests, and only the renter(s) may be on property. We do not allow guests of renter at any time to be on the property.. NO OUTSIDE ANIMALS - Unfortunately, due to severe family allergies and a strict 'no dogs' policy for our equine facility (for safety reasons) we cannot accommodate any pets or animals at all at this rental or property - even though we love them! (The one exception is if you want to board a horse, and if so your horse would have to be up to date on vaccines and recently dewormed.) NO SMOKING - The threat of forest fires in our area is extreme. We therefore are a fully non-smoking property, even outdoors and especially near the barn. THIS IS A WORKING FARM/RANCH - and we are out in the country, darlin! No matter how well we clean the cabin or how often we muck the stables, there will be some occasional dust, bugs and smells. You may hear a chainsaw or tractor from the Christmas tree farm next door, or meet the cows from the grass-fed beef operation we share a fence line with... That is the nature of, well nature and farmlife! HAYFEVER/ALLERGIES - if you suffer from seasonal allergies to grass, pollen or dust, this may not be the right place for you during haying season, which can run anywhere from 1-2 weeks at the end of June/beginning of July. WATER - all taps and hoses on the property are fed by our very own delicious high-mineral well water that we test frequently - so feel free to drink it right out of the tap, no filtration needed. Stay hydrated and please make sure to turn off the water when you are done using it! WASTE & SEPTIC - #ranchlifebestlife... keep all food waste in the provided plastic bin or a baggie in the freezer to avoid attracting the wildlife (bears and mountain lions live nearby) to your outdoor kitchen or scratching at your cabin door - do not put it in the regular trash cans inside or outside the cabin (we only get garbage picked up every other week). Likewise, we are on a septic system here, so it's really important not to flush anything but human waste and TP down the toilet - and please avoid flushing large wads of toilet paper as they could muck up the system. Everything else except food waste must go in the trash bin, and there's a larger garbage can outside the cabin in the covered storage area for emptying the small trash cans into, as needed. ELECTRICITY & A/C - When it's hot, you may want to use the installed a/c unit in the cabin, and you are welcome to do so! Please turn it off when you leave for the day or afternoon (it will cool down quickly when you turn it on again later, promise) and do NOT operate the electric kettle and the air conditioner at the same time, as they both draw quite a bit of electricity! Same goes if it's cold and you have the heater on - switch it off to use the kettle. HORSE BOARDING (Self-Care) Available for $30/night. Includes trailer parking. We offer either a 12x12 bedded stall in the barn with attached 14x16 gravel run or a 12x24 2-sided shelter in a 40'x60' grass/dirt paddock with 4-rail wood fence, water trough, forks & wheel barrow (bring weed-free feed only please, and we'll provide organic grass hay grown right here on the property!). Don't hesitate to send me a message if there is anything else you'd like to know, just ask!
