Want a feeling of really getting away from it all? You don’t need to globe-trot; instead, discover a nook in the vast and gorgeous Ontario, in the heartland of the Mississagi River Valley. Resting on the shores of a crystal-clear lake at the foot of a mountain, this property with two fully-equipped, four-season cabins is situated in one of the most scenic regions of Ontario. The Group of Seven wandered through these landscapes, and immortalized them in their paintings. The region is also among the top ten places in North America for pickerel fishing. The main cabin sits atop a gentle, grassy slope above a private (gravel and sand) lakeshore beach, included in your rental package. It can accommodate comfortably 8 people. The first floor is an open concept area, consisting of a living room with large picture windows, two comfy couches, a fireplace and a TV; a dining table for eight, and a large kitchen. Walk out from the living and dining room area onto an inviting walk-out deck, furnished with patio furniture and a propane bbq, surrounded by trees and with a view of the lake and the mountain. Located on the first floor are three bedrooms (a master bedroom with a queen-size bed and a 3-piece en suite bathroom); another room with a queen size bed, a spacious room with two double-size beds and a spacious 3-piece bathroom. A fourth bedroom (with a queen-size bed), and another TV viewing area are in the loft. There are three office desks in the cottage for those who can work “from home” while their families are enjoying the outdoors. The cabin has a fast-speed internet, a selection of books, DVDs and board games for all ages. The guest cabin is connected to the private beach by a short, wooded trail. It can accommodate comfortably 4 people. The first floor is an open concept area, consisting of a living room with large picture windows, two comfy couches, a wood burning stove, and a cozy eat-in kitchen. Accessible from the living and dining area is an inviting walk-out deck surrounded by trees. It features a patio dining set and a propane barbecue for your use and enjoyment. Also located on the first floor is a 3-piece bathroom. The second-floor features two bedrooms: one with a queen-sized bed, and another with two twin-sized beds. A small loft area has an additional bed. Both kitchens (the main and the guest cabin kitchen) are fully equipped with cookware, utensils, kitchen towels, dishes, and a dishwasher. They are supplied with all the cooking basics, including oil, vinegar, salt, pepper, and a good selection of spices and condiments. A traditional wood-fired cedar sauna is next to the woodshed; take a sauna bath and then cool off in the lake (or, if you prefer, in snow....)! We promote quiet vacationing and safe use of non-motorized water toys and recreational equipment. Visitors can unwind while enjoying a tranquil stay, taking part in family-oriented activities on the property, or they can explore the natural beauty and outdoor features of the wider Algoma region. There are Muskoka-style chairs, a wooden picnic table, and a fire pit on the beach. A selection of paddles, oars and a few additional beach toys is in the blue shed located on the beach. In the Summer, one can engage in a variety of water recreational activities, stroll on the hiking trails, and shop for fresh organic produce and locally made products from area farms, including a couple of alpaca farms. There are many lakes and waterfalls throughout the wider Algoma region to be discovered, including the Aubrey Falls Provincial Park with its hiking trails (50 minutes drive from the cottage). In the Fall, hiking trails and breath-taking views of mountains, lakes and rivers amid the changing foliage make it worthwhile visiting the region. Given the right conditions, you might be able to catch the Northern Lights! (https://www.northernontario.travel/algoma-country/auroras-in-algoma). The nearby towns - Iron Bridge, Thessalon, Bruce Mines and Little Rapids – offer essential services and conveniences such as grocery and other supplies stores, an LCBO, pharmacies and health services, cafes, or restaurants, and, for those treasure-seeking explorers, wonderful antique stores. Either of the cottages may be rented by itself (each is listed independently on Vrbo). Please note that the cottage is located ca. one hour away from Sault Ste. Marie; two hours from Sudbury; six hours from Toronto, and seven from Ottawa. *If you travel with pets or if there are smokers in your group, please do not proceed to the reservation.*
