The property is also less than 5 minute drive (over the river!) from the larger village of Piazza al Serchio with all facilities including traditional shops, supermarket and Tuesday morning market when the small village really comes alive. There are also some bars, a couple of restaurants a river and a train station for easy exploring. Whilst in the depths of the countryside, the house is well located for exploring the local market town of Catselnuovo which is a 20 minute drive, the gorgeous and popular mediaeval town of Barga which is a 35 minute drive and the stunning walled mediaeval city of Lucca which is say 1 hour and 10 minutes away. Pisa, with its leaning tower is a 90 minute drive, and one can visit Florence in 2 hours. The famous Wind Caves are a 45 minute drive. Closer to home there are plenty of little historic villages to visit, many of which have local festas in the summer. There are also the lakes of Gramalazzo, Vagli (with its hidden village submerged by the water) and Pontecosi, and some guests love to swim in the river.
