Cottage by the sea - 10 minutes walk to beach
Our quaint, quirky cottage is opposite a tidal creek with a boatyard and sailing club at the end of the drive. It is situated down a private lane and has a public footpath on our doorstep which passes by My Lords Pond creek and takes you nearer to the beach. Hayling Island Sailing club is a 5 minutes drive or a short cycle ride away. The cottage was built in the 19th century as a home for the workers of Haylings salt industry. It was once owned by the Cole family who originally ran the boatyard until the Wilson Brothers acquired the business. Tounerbury Woods is on the other side of the creek (not accessible) which attracts many birds and wildlife. Hayling Island is renowned for its water sports and there is kayak and paddle board hire locally. You may launch from the boatyard opposite when the tide is suitable. Just inform the boatyard office before launching. There are many places of interest nearby including the historic naval base and Gunwharf quays. There is a pitch and putt and a 9 hole golf course. Visitors with a valid handicap would best enjoy the 18 hole Hayling Golf Club. There is a ferry over to Southsea which is great for cyclists. There is also a cycle route along the old railway track to Havant on the west side of Hayling. We can arrange storage at our cottage for bicycles if required. Please note the bathroom is accessible via the bunk room. Hayling Island is a lovely place to visit especially if you love the sea.
