To get to Likoma island The main Lake Malawi Ferry Illala sails as follows Northbound Fridays departs Monkey Bay 8am arrives Saturday morning at Likoma then on to Nkata Bay and north Southbound Illala departs Nkata Bay 8pm Mondays evening and arrives at Likoma Tuesday early dawn AM Arrive a few hours before departure to buy tickets and board. Two smaller ferries operate between Likoma and Nkata bay around 8 hours one way. Lamani and Makutuwima They leave Likoma Wednesdays and return Thursdays They also Leave Likoma Saturdays and return Mondays Charter flights are available from Lilongwe and other mainland airports around 1 hour flight time Guest access All gardens Surrounding Cottage and Beach area Other things to note Guest will be met from Illala Ferry in motor launch. We strongly recommend the guest book a 1 day island boat tour with possible stop at the pottery and local beach cafe for lunch. Breakfast and evening meals and soft drinks and alcoholic drink maybe bought from the Chef. Details to be provided preferably before arrival as other items are a bit difficult to come by on the island Escorted walking trip to the local Likoma Cathedral maybe arranged with access to the bell-tower roof. The evening migration of birds maybe observed from the top floor balcony between 5 and 6pm with drinks and snacks as required. Boat trips to the islets maybe booked to see the Malawi Fish Eagles at close quarters.
