The Vlei Café Cottage was renovated as additional farm accommodation. It is a quaint rustic style farm cottage, open plan inside, with a small kitchenette and bedroom living area. It overlooks the seasonal wetland on a private farm, Vogelgezang (which means “Birdsong”). The vlei is spectacular during winter and you will see why the farm got its name with flamingos, coots, herons but to name a few bird species, making the vlei their home. There is no electricity, but there are gas appliances. The space The farm is about 600 hectares of un-occupied fynbos, and approximately 700 hectares of arable land: wheat and canola fields, cattle and sheep … a real getaway from the rush of city life. Guest access You will be able to walk around the farm, drive or walk to the gates of De Mond Nature Reserve and explore the coastline .... Other things to note The farm is quiet and peaceful - there is some farming activity in the fields i.e. sometimes there may be tractors ploughing or harvesting the wheat and canola fields, cattle and sheep grazing .... but farm life is slow and peaceful.
