This immaculately renovated home was built in the 1850's and is situated on a private, 3-acre hilltop setting. This home has the conveniences of a year-round home including an island truck. The location is very sunny with air-conditioning units on both floors. Location is conveniently located in the middle of the island, between both ferries, beaches, library, island grocery, and the pool and Recreation Center. The boatyard is a 10-minute downhill walk through a forest-covered footpath. Welcome to House on the Hill! The downstairs has a full eat-in kitchen and a sitting area with two large chairs, a favorite spot in the house. The dining room has a coffee bar and even a daybed to take full advantage of the sun. Towards the middle of the house you'll find a bathroom with an enclosed, stacking washer/dryer and a standing shower. Walk past the bathroom and you'll find yourself standing in the large living room, which is well–provisioned for entertainment; numerous board games and a 32" TV + movies. With an Apple TV you can stream your favorite programming. From the hallway you might also choose to walk outside the sliding glass doors to enjoy some time on the deck. On the side deck we have a large picnic table, a Weber gas grill and a hammock. I nearly forgot to mention the fire pit, a staple for s'more creation! Upstairs, the home has 3 bedrooms that will comfortably sleep 5 people. The largest bedroom features 1 queen bed. We have some toys for younger, preschool kids. Our personal favorite home feature is the soaking tub—wonderful to use after a long day at the beach. This island home is conveniently located in the middle of the island, between both ferries, beaches, library, island grocery, and a half-mile to the pool and Recreation Center. The boatyard is a 10-minute downhill walk through a forest-covered footpath. Bikes are available to explore this 4-mile-long island and its many beaches. The Islander Ferry makes regular trips to Yarmouth while the Casco Bay Lines ferry travels to Portland so you can explore its many shops and restaurants in the Old Port. Groceries can be purchased at Doughty's Market on the island or by placing an order with area markets, including Whole Foods, to be delivered to the island daily via the Casco Bay Lines ferry. Fresh seafood is also available on the island. BONUS: This house includes use of our island car, a Toyota truck. This truck has a MANUAL transmission. It is an island car in every sense, sturdy but not fashionable. Please connect with the hosts before using this truck. Guests are invited to use and enjoy all the space in the home and yard, but are asked not to enter the art studio, located adjacent to the house. The owners/hosts won’t be present on the island, but if you need additional, on-location support, please let us know. Chebeague (pronounced: "shuh-big") is a stunning island located in Maine. It boasts natural beauty and is cherished by both year-round and summer residents for generations. With its impressive size of almost four miles in length and 1½ miles in width, Chebeague Island accommodates a community of over 375 year-round residents and more than 2,000 summer residents. The name Chebeague translates to "isle of many springs." The island has a rich sailing history, particularly known for its stone sloopers who played a significant role in the 19th-century shipping industry. These men transported ballast for the sailing ships of America during that time, later contributing to the construction of some of the country's most breathtaking buildings, including the Washington Monument. Many of the exquisite Greek Revival homes on the island were constructed by these sloopers. —————————— Walking distance to points of interest from the house: .5 miles/12 min – to Boatyard/Niblic/USPS 1 mile/20 min – to Library, Market & Town Hall 1.5 miles/30 min – to Island Museum 1.75–2 miles/35 min – to Inn, Golf Club, CTC Ferry By air, the Chebeague traveler flies into Portland (PWM). On land, one travels to either Portland or Yarmouth, Maine, both easily accessible from the Maine Turnpike (I-95). Chebeague Island is accessed from Portland via a 1-1/4 hour ferry trip, or from Cousins Island in Yarmouth by a fifteen minute ferry run. Generally, the Cousins Island route is preferred by most travelers. In Portland, parking is available near the ferry terminal. Further information about ferry service from Portland is available from Casco Bay Lines. For the Yarmouth ferry, parking is located about eight miles away from the wharf and is served by a shuttle bus that meets all boats. Information about lot location, fares and schedules is available from the Chebeague Transportation Company. Therefore, the traveler's best bet is to park at the CTC satellite parking lot on Route 1 near Exit 16 (Yarmouth), take the shuttle bus to the Cousins Island Wharf, and take the fifteen minute ferry trip to the Stone Wharf on Chebeague, which is a three minute walk from the Chebeague Inn. You will not find rental cars on Chebeague, but a taxi service is available. Chebeague Island is a very walkable place and bicycles are commonplace. Cellular/Mobile Communication: This central location on the island has spotty cell phone coverage so to make phone calls you must first connect to the Starlink network (no password required) and engage “WiFi calling” on your mobile device.
