Description
Set within a family compound which includes a large garden in the shade of a cashew nut tree, this private guest room is simple and airy, with its own private bathroom. The home is fully self sufficient (solar electric, clean running water from an onsite bore hole, vegetables grown onsite, small shop), in the quiet, growing village of Mariama Kunda. Only 5km to the nearest beautiful wide open beach, 7km from Tanji Bird Reserve, and 10km from bustling Senegambia's bars and restaurants. The space The space is an ideal place to chill out, and use as a base for exploring The Gambia. It is especially attractive for bird lovers, with local bird reserves nearby, and the cashew nut tree in the garden attracting many interesting species, which can be viewed from your room. There is a work desk with basic seating. Any additional requirements you have, may be accommodated, subject to local availability, and if sufficient notice is given. Guest access Ousman and Mariama and their delightful young children will give you a warm welcome. In addition to the facilities of the room, guests are welcome to enjoy the garden, in particular the terrace area, which is great for al fresco eating. There is a TV in the family sitting room if needed. The family will happily cook local food for you, and can offer a few simple "foreigner friendly" meals, cooked over a charcoal burner (e.g. oats porridge with bananas, baked beans, fresh orange using the wonderful local oranges, and a manual juicer). There is a freezer on the site if items need to be chilled. Ousman will drive and guide you around The Gambia, as far as you wish, for a negotiable fee. During your stay Ousman and Mariama will look after you. I will be in the background supporting them. Other things to note Since the electricity in the compound is from solar panels, there are some restrictions on what can be used, particularly the use of kettle. But boiling water from the charcoal burner, or stored in a thermos is available 24x7. There is no WiFi in the premises but 3G/4G access is good enough for email.
