Description
Come stay at the family-run project of Yasur Backpackers and join our daily life while you stay in a cosy dormitory surrounded by the jungle. We will also arrange a bunch of activities and guide you around the marvels that Tanna offers. The space The bunkhouse has three rooms - two with twin beds and one with a double bed. The dormitory was recently constructed using traditional materials and rests under a gigantic Banyan Tree towering above the jungle on our family property land at the foot of the Mount Yasur volcano, on an ancient lava tube that once cracked the island's ground (this is the nearest you can stay from the Yasur!) The treehouse contains two private and locked rooms (a twin room and the couple one) and a central balcony facing the volcano, where you will be able to sit and watch the strombolian activity of the volcano, the crater's red glowing at night and even some volcanic bombs flying up and down after the inner explosions! Guest access Under the leaves of the Banyan Tree you will find a new shower and toilet hut and the big common hut, with a large table where breakfast will be served every morning (included in the prize). We can also provide a tasty affordable home-made lunch and dinner. Feel free also to wander around our own family huts, right in front of the road, or the big family forest. Electrical charging facilities are provided, as well as access to fresh drinking water. The area gets a good data signal so if you want to use internet on your phone we suggest that you buy a prepaid card in Lenakel or Port Vila of one of the two phone companies operating in Vanuatu: Digicel and TVL. During your stay Aside from taking part in the family's daily routine (cooking local dishes, hunting flying foxes, collecting and opening coconuts in the bush or playing with the children) we can guide you personally on several activities in the surroundings of our village, such as: - Taking a bath in the thermal hotsprings by the ocean. - Going deep underground into an ancient lava tube. - Learning about our traditions and identity in the local Ancestors Cultural Tour. - Ashboarding the volcanic dunes of the Mount Yasur volcano. - Camping in the uphill isolated village of Waru and enjoying the sunrise with great scenic views of the volcano and the valley. - Trekking the tropical forest through gigantic Banyan Trees down to Port Resolution and Cook's Rock, where we can take a dip and snorkel in the coral reef. - Enjoying the John Frum cult chants held every Friday night, and joining the dance if you feel like doing so! - Visiting the cascade, the Nampas dance, etc. We can also arrange the following visits around the island: - Driving up to the crater of the Mount Yasur Volcano. - Walking through the roots of the biggest Banyan Tree in the world (the size of a football pitch!), near Lenakel. - Diving in the Blue Cave, in the northern tip of the island. - Visiting the traditional village of Yakel, where "Tanna", the movie, was filmed. Don't hesitate to ask us about any of these activities or make any suggestions. We can make an activities schedule once you arrive, so you don't need to worry about anything before coming! Other things to note Philip, one of the brothers of the family living by the treehouse, has extensive experience working with vulcanologists and geologists and a good knowledge of the volcano and its different effects around the island, so if you want to have first-hand information about it he will be pleased to explain and guide you to see everything on site!
