The Keepers Arms is a quaint bed and breakfast in the heart of the ‘Lake Country’ Bawnboy, Co.Cavan. Independently-owned, by Sheila and Bryan McKiernan this quality assured Bed and Breakfast offers you the perfect way to see and capture the true spirit of Ireland. Formerly a coaching house, the stone building has recently been restored, with great care taken to retain the original character of the building, while still providing a high standard of comfort and modern facilities. The space Family owned The Keepers Arms offers you the very best of Irish traditions, hospitality, welcome, local heritage and natural beauty. We offer nine well-appointed en-suite bedrooms. Six of the bedrooms look out over the main street and the local Workhouse built during the Great Famine, dating back to 1850. Depending on your needs we can accommodate single, double, twin, king, or family rooms. Cots can be provided for little ones. En-suite bathroom have power showers, complementary soap & shower gel, soft towels and drinking glasses. To ensure your maximum comfort your bedroom features a host of amenities, including multi-channel TV, hairdryer, direct dial telephone and complimentary beverage tray. Wi-Fi is also available in all rooms. Guest access At the Keepers Arms we have all the facilities necessary to enjoy a short break in Co.Cavan and all under the one roof. Bar Area We offer a fully licensed bar. Flat screen TV’s showing all the latest sports. Relax with a pint or catch up with friends by the fireside. A full bar menu of is available daily and orders taken to 8pm. Dining The Dining room is situated off the bar area. Guests can enjoy a full variety of local, seasonal produce prepared by our team of creative chefs. Breakfast is served from 7am to 10.30am. Sunday Lunch is served from 12.30pm-2.30pm. Special Events We can cater for larger parties and events, weddings anniversary, christenings, birthday parties etc. Other things to note Out & About Situated in the Breffni mountainous region within the Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark, the Keepers Arms is surrounded by beauty making it the ideal base for all types of activities. Geopark A Geopark is an area recognised by UNESCO to have exceptional geological heritage. The Geopark takes in numerous sites throughout Cavan and Fermanagh many of which are open to the public. All of the sites provide for a vareity of interests including geology but also archaeology, history, folklore, wildlife and activities such as cycling and walking. GOLF Just 5km away the Slieve Russell Hotel offers daily green fees to play their 18 hole championship golf course. Other facilities include 9 hole golf, 5 bay floodlit driving range & golfing lessons. Tee times can be arranged. Other golf courses nearby include: Belturbet Golf Club, Cavan Golf Club, Blacklion Golf Club, Ballinamore Golf Club, Enniskillen Golf Club, Castle Hume Golf Club & Lough Erne Resort. WALKING County Cavan is a walker’s paradise, with a wide variety of walks for all fitness levels and abilities. There are rambling country lanes, winding Forest tracks, breathtaking mountain roads, and tranquil lake shore paths, all within easy reach of the Keepers Arms. Bawnboy Looped Walk is a signed walk about 5km in length, it takes about 1hr-to 1.5hrs to walk and is of moderate difficulty, and car parking is provided. We can also provide maps of The Slieve Rushen Mountain, you can walk for miles and discover the fabulous views from the top beside the Wind Farms. CYCLING The Keepers Arms is located on the Kingfisher Cycle Trail. A signed trail and map available for cycling enthusiasts. HISTORICAL SITES The village of Bawnboy is steeped in heritage dating back to 1850. Historical sites in the area include: St Mogue Island The Killycluggan Stone, Bawnboy Workhouse, St Peters Church, Enniskillen Castle, Belleek Pottery, Florencecourt House, Belturbet Railway Station and Cavan County Museum. FISHING The staff at the Keepers Arms has an abundance of knowledge of the lakes in the area. Brackley, Lakefield & Garadice are close by, maps and guided tours of the waters are available. SCENIC DRIVES Explore Glanglevlin – Shannon Pot, Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark , Florencecourt House, Beltrubet Railway, Arigna Mining Experience, and much more…… CRAFTS Cavan is natural hub for indigenous craft.
