HISTORY: -Our beautiful Malecon Beach House with 4 units could be considered vintage, as it is 80-years old, but it would surprise you as it looks far more modern. -Most of the kitchens, including plumbing, electrical, and lighting have been completely upgraded. It is constantly being repainted, due to the closeness to the humidity and closeness to the ocean. We have included tasteful furnishings, kitchen ware, and décor. Although the original pool did not come with a filtration system it is maintained by our technician and it is cleaned of debris daily and welcoming place for a swim. -The front stairs to the rooftop, and thatched log palapa were both constructed in 2021. This gave access to the rooftop and pool for 2 other suites. In addition, it also gives a beautiful rooftop sitting area for our guests to enjoy the views and ocean breeze. -Other additions are that we created a new suite to the back unit by adding a kitchen to create a new suite we call the Casita. -The owners, who are from Canada started restoring this building starting from 2021 when they bought it. Because it had been abandoned for many years, it required an initial six-month renovation from the ground up, and at present we are continuously making improvements including repainting etc., they feel a sense of pride in how far it has improved, compared to the condition it was in when they bought it. Although it is a work in progress, it has an amazing charm with a mural and colorful and tastefully decorated rooms. We hope you enjoy your stay, and we hope you become one of our returning regular guests and continue to watch our transformation unfold. GUEST ACCESS: - There is a patio just outside the apartment door that has a sofa and table and chairs for sitting outside and getting fresh air. This is your unit’s personal patio, and although it's next to the entrance, shared by all 4 units, it’s only yours to use anytime! This is also the designated smoking area for anyone in your group. You can also enjoy these SHARED COMMON AREAS (Reserved for registered guests only and not daytime visitors, if you please) - On the rooftop there is a log Palapa with thatched roof. It offers a shaded area with plenty of seating to enjoy the breeze and views of the ocean and much of Progreso. Perfect place to watch a beautiful sunset or sunrise. - Enjoy a swim in our Pool. Although it doesn't have a filtration system, it is hand filtered of debris daily, especially with our close proximity of the ocean and the palm trees above. Please see below for the many local activities to enjoy LOCAL THINGS TO DO: And when it’s time to venture out, we are situated just a couple of blocks from the east end of Progreso’s famous Malecon, a paved waterfront promenade that runs from Calle 60 (the street you’re on!) to Calle 80! It’s a 1.1km/.68 miles walk one way and it’s loaded with things to see and do. There you’ll find a large selection of restaurants, many of them selling seafood and of course since it’s oceanfront, you can dine with a beach view! If you want more of a walk, you can also walk to the Progreso Pier at the west end of the Malecon. It’s an incredible 6.5 km long (4 miles)! It is the world's longest pier and hosts cruise ships and cargo vessels. After the pier & Malecon you can follow a wooden walkway along the beach where there are amusement rides and more things to see. You are just 3 minutes to the beach so you can make it an everyday trip if you want! And you can enjoy the beautiful ocean views and warm shallow water. The water is shallow because this is where the meteorite landed 66 million years ago (leading to the extinction of the dinosaurs). There are 2 museums, one on the Malecon and another near by where you can learn more. And of course, there are many day trip options too, you can go see pink flamingos at the salt flats in Celestún or an excursion to visit one of the many Mayan Ruins. Chichén Itzá being one of the most famous of course as it’s one of the 7 Wonders of the Modern World! Guest access You’ll have exclusive access to your apartment and your patio area. Plus, as a registered guest, will have access to the shared areas like the courtyard pool and seating area downstairs and the large palapa rooftop terrace. Other things to note *PLEASE NOTE: there is no direct access from the apartment to the pool. You must climb a narrow staircase upstairs, cross over the rooftop (3rd floor), and go back down the stairs to enjoy the pool & courtyard area. May not be suitable for those with mobility issues. There are a few common sense rules to ensure that all guests can enjoy a fun and enjoyable experience at the Malecon Beach House.
