Description
Our beloved family cottage has sweeping views of Scarborough's bay. Sheltered, quiet and perfectly situated, the beach is a 15 minute walk, and the back door opens to the mountain. A real old-timey getaway, where you can see and hear the waves! The space Our cottage is small and simple, just a main living space and two small bedrooms and a bathroom (all in all about 45sqm). Its a quaint, rustic old-school beach cottage - a space thats special and unique. The back door opens onto the back patio, with a braai area and a wooden dining table and chairs. There's an outdoor shower tucked into the corner! Behind that, you walk directly out into the mountain nature reserve. Sheltered from the wind, in front, there's a wide deck across the width of the front of the cottage, that commands sweeping views of the town and bay, and where you'll always hear the crashing of the waves. Its a nature lover's paradise, with birds, tortoises and other wildlife all around you. The cottage is nestled at the top of the property - which means great views, but also a climb from the driveway. There's a set of stairs with about 50 steps that climb about 10 meters from the driveway to the back patio. There's handrail that runs along next to the steps. A couple of things to note: 1. The bathroom only has a (smallish) bath, with a built-in handheld shower attachment. There is an outdoor shower as well! 2. The second bedroom is small, with just a bunkbed - perfect for kids but might be a bit small for two adults to share - we'll leave the judgement call up to you. 3. Because the space is small, there isn't a lot of hanging space for clothes. 4. The deck is quite high and the railings are not very close together, so parents with very young children need to be aware of this before you book - please check the pictures to make sure you're comfortable from a safety point of view. 5. There’s a local troop of baboons that make irregular appearances in the village. Baboon monitors are employed to keep them in the reserve, but since our cottage is on the edge of the reserve, they can sometimes wander through the garden. They’re not dangerous, but they are wild animals - don’t feed them or leave food out for them, and close windows and doors while they’re around - there’s nothing they love more than making mess in the kitchen in search of a bag of sugar! Guest access The whole cottage and garden is available for your use. The wifi is "116 Hill Top" and the password is Rusticcottage There’s a UPS on the router meaning the router will stay on for at least two hours in periods of no power Other things to note If you go to a local Post Office (nearest is in Fish Hoek), you can buy a permit to harvest mussels from the sea. It costs about R90 per permit holder - you'll need to take your ID. At low tide you can then head down to the rocky shoreline and gather up to 25 mussels per permit holder - and steam or braai them for a meal fresh from the sea!
