Autumn Cottage Getaway or Monthly Winter Rental

A delightful escape to peace and tranquility! We're offering a hefty monthly discount at our cottage, perfect for a writing or spiritual retreat or romantic getaway. Our quiet cottage is 2.5 hours from NYC, but feels a world away. Escape the city's tensions, clear your head, enjoy the woodlands. Enhanced wifi., nice kitchen, tiled bath, fully insulated, heated with forced hot air. Small pet okay. NOTE: There has been evidence of mice in the kitchen. See details below. The space An adorable "dollhouse" cottage out in the country of the Catskills, 2.5 hour drive north of Manhattan. Our sweet 1900 cottage tucked into a copse of trees, surrounded by meadows on all sides, and seeks peace-loving guests. A perfect place to restore some sanity. From the back terrace, watch the evening descend over the meadows; even in winter, on the warmer sunny days, you can enjoy breakfast in "Welly's Cafe," the glassed-in side of the front porch. In the chilly evenings, turn on the heat and tuck up in the cheerful living room. There's nothing like walking on the rolling roads in the area, looking for deer and birds, then coming home to nestle in to the comfortable sofa in the living room, or, in winter, to cuddle under the down comforters on the bed. A nature preserve is a 15-minute drive away. Cozy, quiet, a perfect romantic weekend or writing or spiritual retreat; pleasant living room, bedroom piled with down comforters; the perfect retreat for when you get back from hiking or cross-country skiing 10 minutes away, or downhill skiing at Windham 30 minutes away. When it's warm, front porch with a table for two in "Welly's Cafe." (table service not included) IMPORTANT NOTE: This is a 200-year-old country house, and with the charm come country mice in winter, despite our new kitchen and all our efforts to convince them to find housing elsewhere. As of fall 2023, not much evidence has been seen. Very unlikely you'll see a mouse, but you may see droppings. ALSO: The house does allow a small pet, and we bring our cats here. It is thoroughly cleaned between guests, but if you have severe allergies, you should know that. Not a party house; it's an older home that needs considerate inhabitants. New fridge, newly-painted bathroom, new windows. Furnished with nice, old furniture as you'd expect in a country cottage, and a double futon in main bedroom, single bed in second bedroom. Cotton sheets, good pillows. Downstairs: front porch (excellent for morning coffee), dining area, kitchen, bath, big living room with pull-out queen sofa, comfy easy chairs. Also downstairs: small bedroom with desk, chair, and single bed. Lots of books to get lost in. Upstairs: sweetest bedroom in the world, painted a buttery off-white, with white dresser, new double futon bed, end tables. In winter, it could be a winter wonderland: we can't promise snow, but the house is about a 30 minute drive up the mountain to the popular ski town of Windham. Cross-country skiing is about ten minutes away in Rensselearville. Guest access Entire house, porches, yard. Other things to note This is not a luxury home. Don't expect perfection, but it's organized, sweet, and clean. For monthly winter rental we'll have our housecleaner come in once every month at no additional charge to you.
