WIFI 400mbps service, 200-400mbps typical reception in unit. FAQ...HOW DO I GET THAT LOWER POSTED NIGHTLY RATE??? Airbnb nightly price header is an average of all rates we offer. Our rates are usually lower on Mon, Tues, Wed. Plug in dates to find out. Save $$$ by adding that extra day to your weekend stay! Previously we did not allow 1 night stays there was just too much prep labor for each guest changeover to break even. In order to accommodate short stays we now offer discounts* for longer stays. Simply adding 1 night to a 2 night stay substantially lowers your nightly rate! *Nightly Discounts do not apply to charges for extra persons, cleaning or optional amenities. Book that extra night and enjoy a more relaxing vacation. Even if you don't stay the extra night you will be able to enjoy an extra full day at the property and a leisurely check out after a 2 night stay. Book the low season or weekdays. Pre-summer and fall are amazing experiences (especially here at the lake) and cost less than half summer bookings. You get more days for less and get to enjoy the area without the crowds. 10% discount for advance non-refundable summer bookings. Unlike other listings the pictures and views in our listing are ALL taken from OUR property. Thank you for your interest in our Donner Lake home. This comfortable Donner Lake lakefront 2 bedroom/1 bathroom is right on the water with large windows and beautiful lake views from every window. This is the lake level quarters of a 2 unit custom home. Wake up to a view of the lake and forested granite mountains. Walk down 3 flights of stairs and jump in the lake or cast out a line. Walk down a pathway toward the lake to the entrance. There is a living room, kitchen, 2 bedrooms, a laundry room and a full bathroom. The rental is completely self-contained. General  Feel free to set the thermostat to a comfortable temperature. When you leave, please set it back to 45 degrees and press the Hold button. Make sure you see the word “HOLD” on the display.  Oven; the housekeeper does not clean the oven. If you make a mess please remove the racks and follow the directions on the oven for self cleaning, set the timer for about 3 hours.  To light BBQ, turn the front knob first, then press the ignition button (Instructions are printed on the BBQ). If the ignition button clicker won’t light it there is a backup lighter in the white kitchen cabinet.  When you’ve finished cooking on the BBQ, turn all three burners on and leave them on for 20 minutes to clean the grill. Replace the foil lining in the drip pan under the BBQ EVERY time you use it. If you don’t, a bear will tear the BBQ apart even if you’re home. (If you’re pressed for time, you can simply bring the foil-lined pan inside the apartment.)  Please use the washer & dryer (and laundry soap) in the furnace room at your convenience.  There is a wood burning fireplace behind an electric one with a faux flame and optional electric heat functions. The control panel is on the bottom behind a fold down door. To use the wood fireplace carefully (lift with 2 people do not slide) move the electric unit to the side. You must supply your own wood and open the damper. Clean the fireplace putting the ashes in the black metal can, if they are still hot set the can IN the fireplace and do not replace the electric unit (ashes must be cold and wet and placed in a separate bag before disposing in trash). If you have cleaned the fireplace and disposed of the ashes close the damper and replace the electric unit at the end of your stay.  Please let us know if something breaks, do not try to hide it; that will inconvenience the next guest. We hope you enjoy your stay! ADDITIONAL WINTER RULES Access to this property is difficult in winter conditions, involves driving and walking on snow and ice covered slopes, stairs, and surfaces and is generally limited to physically fit adventurous travelers who arrive with proper equipment and work for the rewards. Minimize your luggage and items to carry into the unit. No vehicle should come down the access road without chains if there is any snow on it (even if you saw another vehicle do it or is plowed). (Link chains work better than cable chains.) The steep portion is often heated from underneath. If there is any snow on it THERE OFTEN IS ICE UNDERNEATH that has not melted yet. The locals you see traveling it without chains have ICE SPECIFIC TIRES not just “snow” tires or 4 wheel drive. 40 thousand mile city car tires can freeze overnight and when they do they perform much like the hard plastic tires on a child’s “Big Wheel”. Even with chains do a walk test and rub the snow away, if it is slippery to walk on EVEN CHAINS (especially cable chains) CAN SLIDE. Conditions vary day to day and hour by hour. If we are at the property we can usually put some sand or ice melt on the road if you give us a call. It is best to wait for it to thaw and the road to turn black. If you can’t wait put on your chains. DTS Pilot Services delivers sells and installs chains on site. Bring a metal snow shovel. Check with us for current conditions. Although we do some basic clearing, we do not regularly clear snow for parking or the 60’ stepped path. Sometimes you must do this yourself and it is strenuous physical work. We do not clear snow from the access road but the neighbor with a shared driveway usually does when 4” or more snow falls overnight. We do not guarantee when or if it will be cleared and, if it needs to be cleared for your ingress or egress you will be responsible for those charges. No vehicle should attempt to go up the access road without chains if there is snow on it even after it has been plowed. Do not follow another vehicle until it has made it all the way to the bottom or the top. Improperly equipped vehicles can slide all the way to the bottom after making it all most all the way to the top. Every vehicle that is brought down the access road must have chains that the owner knows how to install, has installed them on that vehicle before, and will install them at the top before coming down if the access road has any snow. There is a very high probability that chains will be required on the access road even if the main road is clear. If a vehicle is all wheel or 4 wheel drive it must also have chains. The only exception to not putting chains on this type of vehicle when snow is present is if the tires have the “mountain/snowflake” certified stamp on them and have less than 5000 miles on them and I have verified the vehicle and driver is capable enough before it comes down (it still must have chains available). “All season” and many “M+S (mud and snow)” tires are not “mountain/snowflake” certified and will not travel this road safely without link chains. With snow on the ground parking is very tight, slippery and difficult so it will be best if you bring as few vehicles as possible. There are only 2 parking spots. In slippery conditions I recommend you leave yourself a little more room for maneuvering and minimize the number of vehicles to be parked on site. There is no parking allowed on the main road in snow season Nov.1 – April 1, because of snow removal equipment operations. If you need to park a vehicle that cannot travel the access road safely it will have to be parked in a public parking lot in town or at a park and ride bus stop or similar location. There will be snow and ice in the parking area and on the path to the unit. I highly recommend each guest have a pair of Yaktrax for the shoes they are going to wear outside, most REI stores have them. Please do not wear these inside the unit, they damage the floor. Mountain ACE Hardware on Donner Pass Road in Truckee has chains but they do not test fit them for you or show you how to install them. Independent auto supply stores sometimes offer these services and may be less expensive than purchasing chains in Truckee. Link chains work better than cable chains. One stuck or crashed vehicle will block the entire road for everyone. Following these recommendations will help ensure that everyone has an accident and stress free time. No sledding or playing in the access road. If you are walking on the access road and there is a vehicle (driving or parked) stay uphill of the direction a vehicle can slide. The roof sheds snow without warning onto the stairs leading from the lower deck down to the dock and access to the lake by this route may be off limits (other routes are not improved and may have deep snow). Verify with Mark the roof is clear before using these stairs. The dock accumulates snow up to 6 feet or more beyond the dock itself. If you walk on the snow covered dock stay in the middle off the wings and far away from the edges. Do not play under or near the dock if it is covered in snow. Do not jump off the dock or attempt to climb on from below, there are rocks and sharp edges concealed in the snow.
