The house’s construction in Chefchaouen’s well renowned historic district of Bāb S-sūq. Built in the original Moroccan style by the grandsons of the city founder, Ben Rāšid, it was inherited by generations of family members known for their intellectual lives and political engagement. The house is under the propriety of one of ʔāl al-ʕAlami’s granddaughters. The space About the owner of the house: Dr. Aicha Rahmouni (scholar of the Ancient Middle East and Arabic dialectology). After a decade abroad, Dr. Rahmouni proceeded to renovate the house, guided by the close and living memory of her grandmother (see her book, Storytelling in Chefchaouen Northern Morocco.Brill. 2015). The house underwent an important restoration, while preserving at most its original architectural form.
