NO CLEANING FEES! 2 BR 1 BA guest suite w/mini-kitchen, for you or you & your co-traveler and each wants his/her own bedroom. IMPORTANT! READ “ACCOMMODATIONS POLICY" below BEFORE SENDING AN INQUIRY because we serve a certain niche of guests. Clean, pretty, & relaxingly comfy. Serene, wooded, retreat- like setting on a small lake w/wildlife. Centrally located in Hampton Roads, near Smithfield & Newport News. October 26 - December 3 reserved for Surry Outage workers. Inquire for LTS terms. Your private sanctuary is the entire second floor of our home, and consists of two bedrooms and one bath, plus a mini-kitchen. You will be booking the entire suite. (See floor plan in photos.) Place the provided screen at the top of the stairs for extra privacy. ACCOMODATIONS POLICY: We enjoy hosting people from all backgrounds and from all over the world. Each Airbnb appeals to certain travelers. Ours is located inside our home and is best suited for the solitary traveler; or for two friends, relatives, or colleagues; or, a couple who prefer to sleep separately (snoring? sleep issues?). Our Airbnb seems to fit the preferences of several people based on the number we have hosted over the years, and it works for us, too. Please do not send an inquiry asking for exceptions, or asking our reasons for what we offer. 1. The guest suite is for you or, if you are not traveling alone, for you and your travel companion only. 2. One person per bedroom. NO EXCEPTIONS. The size of the beds (king and full) does not determine our policy. Each guest will enjoy a nice size bed instead of having to sleep in a twin bed. 3. IMPORTANT!! IF YOU ARE A “COUPLE “ and still desire to stay here, WHEN YOU MAKE YOUR RESERVATION, STATE THAT YOU HAVE READ AND WILL HONOR THIS ACCOMMODATIONS POLICY. 4. When sending an inquiry or reservation request, tell us who is coming with you (co-worker? friend? family member? etc. and the reason for your visit to the area (work? concert? family event? etc.) 5. We can host 2 adults or one adult and one child 13 and over (counts as the second adult). 6. Long term stays (LTS) greater than 2 weeks require special consideration, including agreement to LTS policies. Send an inquiry for more information. IMPORTANT NOTE: October 21 - December 2, 2024 is RESERVED for guest workers for the Surry Power Plant outage. Worker guests, please send an INQUIRY for special pricing. If you are NOT needing a place for this purpose during those dates, please do NOT try to book or send an inquiry for them. BACK PORCH: You'll enjoy the screened-in back porch and deck/patio for conversation, eating, rocking, reading, relaxing, or taking a nap in the hammock. A ceiling fan helps keep you refreshed with a breeze. Like to eat al fresco? Enjoy the bistro type table for two over looking the lake. The LAKE: You might even see a heron or a crane going fishing or frogging for its meal. Ducks and geese love this end of the lake, and a three member otter family or a beaver or two also swim and fish from time to time. If you take a look at the log in the lake on a warm day, you will know why we have named our home "Turtle Cove"! GARDEN BEDROOM: You can choose the larger bedroom which has two twins set up as a king. Prop up your feet on the ottoman and read or watch TV in the chair. GARDEN BEDROOM CLOSET: You’ll find a floor fan, ironing board, iron, extra pillows, blankets, hangers and space for hanging clothes, a clothes bin, fire escape ladder (suite is on the 2nd floor), and a terry cloth robe. Hopefully you won’t need the fire escape ladder! (It’s there for guest safety. We’ve never had a fire.) CHESAPEAKE BEDROOM Want the cozier bedroom? This room has a double bed, phone/device charging station, room darkening shades, expandable table/desk/work station with chair, a reading chair, and a terry cloth robe. Open out the table/desk to work or to set up one of the available board games. BOTH BEDROOMS: Both rooms have a sound machine, reading chair. and smart TV (Hulu, Amazon, Netflix, and other apps). Since each bed has a memory foam mattress topper, if you aren't tall, you won't need to take a running jump to get into the bed. Just use the provided step stool. MINI-KITCHEN: (located in Chesapeake room walk in closet area) Want to store snacks? Microwave some soup? Make toast? Coffee? Tea? You'll have what you need with a mini-fridge with small freezer section, microwave, toaster, K-cup coffee maker, electric kettle, ice bucket (filtered water and ice available downstairs), dishes, utensils, dish drainer, towels, and dish cleaning supplies. REMOTE WORK: Here by yourself? Stay in Garden bedroom for relaxation and set up your "office" in the Chesapeake room if you'd prefer to not "take your work home". Wi-fi is fast for office or school computer work. NOISE CONTROL: Since the house has an open floor plan, we installed solid core doors on the bedrooms, and sound buffer material in the yellow bedroom floor. These do a good job of muffling/eliminating sounds from other parts of the house (and from the guest suite bedrooms back to the common areas of the house). Of course, we try to stay quiet when our guests need to sleep. We check with our guests and so far, have found their sleep is not disturbed by normal household noise when their door is closed. BATHROOM: Choose to take a shower or a bath. Liquid hand soap, bath gel, shampoo, conditioner, hair dryer, fresh and clean 100% cotton towels, wash clothes and hand towels are provided. Extra items are in the closet in case you forget to bring something. HEATING AND COOLING: The thermostat is located in the upstairs hallway for comfort control. Note: when the wood stove is used in the winter, the upstairs AC can not be used. Guests find that keeping doors closed, and slightly opening windows if necessary, keeps the rooms comfortable. In the summer, you might find closing your door, opening the window at night, and enjoying the fresh breezed and sounds of the crickets and frogs can make for an extra good sleeping! BIZZY: We have a 12 pound terrier named "Bizzy" (see photos of porch) who enjoys being petted once she gets to know you — which takes about 10 seconds. She is NOT allowed upstairs in the guest suite, no matter what she tells you, or how cute a look she might give you! BEACHES and COLONIAL WILLIAMSBURG/BUSCH GARDENS: Plan a beach day while in the area! We are located about 55 minutes from the Oceanfront at Virginia Beach (depending on rush hour traffic), 30 minutes from Buckroe Beach on the Chesapeake Bay, and 10 minutes to Huntington Beach on the James River. We’ll be happy to loan you the umbrella, chairs, and towels. Don’t forget to bring your sunglasses and sunscreen!! Colonial Williamsburg and Busch Gardens are located about 45 minutes away. LATE CHECK OUT: We will TRY to accommodate requests for a later check out, but are not always able to do so. LATE CHECK OUTS MUST BE APPROVED IN WRITING (Airbnb messaging system is OK, meaning, we'll confirm via Airbnb messages if you can have a late check out or not.) If your late check out has NOT been approved in writing, a $50 late charge will be applied 30 minutes past the normal check out time. If check out has not occurred by 2 hours past the listed check out time, one days room fee will be charged. If check out has not occurred by 4 hours after the listed check out time, authorities may be contacted. Sadly, more and more Airbnb hosts are having to implement similar policies to make sure the rooms are ready for the next guest coming in— and even to prevent “squatting”. SECRUITY DEPOSIT: This is accessed ONLY if you damage the suite or house and property, or your late check out has not been approved in writing by the host. NOTE: We have hosted guests as long as over 2 months previously. However, stays longer than 14 days require special consideration and terms. Isle of Wight Short Term Rental Property Permit Number: 29571 Parking is plentiful, convenient, and free. Check in is at 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. and check out is at 11:00 a.m. unless other late check out requests are approved in writing (texts are OK). Guests can use the entire guest suite, including its mini-kitchen set up, the back porch, patio, dock/deck, outdoor swings and gardens. The Berkey water filter and the ice machine in the kitchen are also for guest use. Guests are invited to join us in the living room for conversation if desired. A key will be provided for you to have access to the home during your stay. Due to previous experiences, a replacement cost of $25 will be charged for any lost keys. This fee is non-negotiable, and will be charged by deducting from the security deposit. Thank you for considering Turtle Cove! We look forward to hosting you here. We'll take our cue from you regarding interaction and conversation. If you prefer just to come and go, that is fine. If you enjoy some good conversation, we do, too, as our schedule and your schedule allows. We are a professional couple. (though I am "retired"). We sometimes leave the house very early and sometimes return late. However, we strive to be very quiet, and request that you will also, if you must enter and leave between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. Located 10 to 15 minutes from historic Smithfield, and conveniently located to places of interest from Williamsburg to Virginia Beach, our home is tucked away in a wooded area, with water and wildlife right behind the house. The neighborhood is a place in which it is enjoyable to walk, bike, or run. Huntington Beach, on the James River, is located just across the James River Bridge. Buckroe Beach, on the Chesapeake Bay, is located about 30 minutes away, and the Atlantic Ocean is just under an hour away. We are happy to loan you beach towels, chairs, a small cooler, and an umbrella for a beach outing. In the neighborhood, there are water and marsh views to take in as you explore. We have one adult trike for guest use. Two gyms are nearby, including a YMCA. Even though we live in a small community, it offers several places to eat. In addition to fast food places, close by is one of the best Japanese restaurants one of the best barbecue places and one of the best Italian restaurants (the chef is from Naples) in Hampton Roads. A Mexican restaurant, and a seafood restaurant offer good food. Urgent care, a grocery store, drug store, and gas stations are about 5 to 10 minutes away. More shopping and restaurants are located within a 15 minute drive. Smithfield offers a great hiking trail at Windsor Park, fun shopping in unique stores, and great restaurants in a quaint setting. Huntington Beach is just across the James River. Several tourist attractions, including the oceanfront at Virginia Beach and Colonial Williamsburg, are just less than an hour away. There is no public transportation nearby, so you will need a car to get around. The neighborhood is located just off Hwy 17, a major corridor which connects to I64 and I664 directly. Drives to most area tourist attractions, military bases, and universities, etc. are pretty straightforward and not too complicated. Visit historic Smithfield one day (15 minutes away), Colonial Williamsburg another (45 - 50 minutes away), Busch Gardens the next (40 minutes), Norfolk Botanical Gardens the next (40 minutes), and then the Norfolk Zoo (40 minutes) There are enough attractions to keep on going. Don't forget to enjoy some time in the sun at the ocean front of Virginia Beach (55 minutes) , Buckroe Beach on the Chesapeake Bay (30 minutes), or Huntington Beach (less than 10 minutes away on the James River) just across the James River Bridge from Carrollton . We are less than 10 minutes from the shipyard in Newport News, 20 minutes from Langley, about 20 to 25 minutes to Norfolk Naval Base, 20 minutes to Christopher Newport University and the Ferguson Center for the Arts, the Marine Museum, and the Living Museum as well as other attractions. Hampton U and Hampton Coliseum are about 20-15 minutes away. Nauticus, Chrysler Hall and Museum of Art, plus the McArthur Memorial are located about 35 minutes away in Norfolk. You can also take I-64 or Hwy. 60 to Williamsburg and Busch Gardens (a 40 - 45 minute drive) or drive up Hwy 10 past Smithfield and take the James River Ferry over to Jamestown to see the Jamestown Settlement and then on in to Williamsburg. Important Reminder: if you have not done so already, read the accommodations policy in the description section and follow any instructions locate there.
