Description

Two private rooms in a shared house on our 40-acre farm, 10 mins to Delta Terminal @DTW. Main room has a full-size bed with comfy adaptive foam mattress; second room with a full-size futon and memory foam topper, twin size trundle bed below rolls out. Guests get entire second floor, including half bathroom, desk, and sitting area; shared access to shower/tub downstairs. Vaccinated dog lovers only; no same day bookings, requests must be made with one day notice. The space COVID STATEMENT -- WE ARE STRICTLY FOLLOWING PROTOCOLS TO MINIMIZE DISEASE TRANSMISSION. ONE MEMBER OF OUR HOUSEHOLD IS IMMUNOCOMPROMISED. ALL ELIGIBLE MEMBERS OF OUR HOUSEHOLD HAVE BEEN VACCINATED. WE EXPECT YOU TO HAVE BEEN VACCINATED IF YOU ARE ELIGIBLE AND MEDICALLY ABLE TO DO SO. ALL GUESTS MUST WEAR MASKS WHEN IN SHARED INDOOR SPACES WITH MEMBERS OF OUR HOUSEHOLD AND MUST PRACTICE SOCIAL DISTANCING. IF ANY MEMBER OF YOUR PARTY FALLS ILL BEFORE YOUR STAY, PLEASE REBOOK ELSEWHERE. HOST HAS THE IMMUNE SYSTEM OF SOMEONE WITH AIDS OR CANCER -- WHAT IS A COLD FOR YOU COULD LAND HER IN THE HOSPITAL. PLEASE RESPECT HER MEDICAL RESTRICTIONS. Ours is a brick farmhouse built in 1944, in beautiful condition. You will have the entire UPSTAIRS to yourself, with two bedrooms, a sitting/reading area, a desk for working, and a private half bath. There is NOT a private entrance, you must enter via backdoor and kitchen. Please be aware that this is a shared house on a busy farm and that areas outside the AirBnb space are in active use by the residents (our dining room table is basically a giant desk with paperwork all over). The main bedroom is west facing (afternoon light), the second room is east facing (morning light) with a lovely view of our orchard and pig pasture. Both rooms have light blocking curtains and blinds. In the upstairs sitting area, we have snacks, water, and an electric kettle so you can enjoy some tea or instant coffee. OUR KITCHEN IS OFF LIMITS TO GUESTS STAYING FEWER THAN THREE NIGHTS. While we hope to get a microwave for upstairs, unless it is listed in the amenities, it is not there yet. if you are staying for 3 or more days, we can come to an agreement for light kitchen use (i.e., we will set aside an hour mid day and an hour in the evening when you will have exclusive use of the kitchen for your own cooking). Shorter-term guests should be prepared to eat out and/or rely on foods that do not require cooking, like cereal, cup of noodles, etc. We also have a small orchard, with about 20 apple and pear trees, where we free range our pigs and chickens. We have chickens in the coop and pigs in the pig pen/outdoors in the fenced portion of the orchard, and several barns/storage sheds/outbuildings. At the rear of the property we have 13 acres of lovely forest full of oaks and the occasional hickory tree. We purchased the property in 2017 and are working to establishing an eco-friendly, sustainable farm specializing in pastured pork fed on native fruit and nut species. WARNING WARNING WARNING READ THIS! This is a real working farm, not a photography background -- if you are out on the farm you may encounter dirt, smells of a biological origin (poop), and other stimuli not suitable for the extremely sensitive. NOISE NOTICE -- due to our proximity to the airport we periodically have planes flying over; however, these generally are barely audible within the house unless you have the windows open. We are also on a busy road, but again, the noise is minimal when inside. We have house-wide AC for warm days. ALLERGEN NOTICE -- We have dogs and sometimes cats, hence this listing is not suitable for guests with allergies to (or phobias of) pets. We do not allow our pets into the AirBnb space; however, any household with pets runs some risk of dander. (Our listing is also pet friendly, so other guests may have pets in the rooms before you.) Therefore if you are highly allergic we ask that you not book with us. Although you will have the upstairs bedrooms and half bathroom for your exclusive use, the other parts of the house are our residence. This is a busy farm run by two working professionals. We strive to keep the AirBnb clean and quiet for you; however, our common spaces downstairs are decidedly more "lived in"; please be aware that you may encounter some of the clutter and messes of daily life in the kitchen (although we do our best to clean and organize before you arrive). Guest access Guest bedrooms, upstairs sitting area, upstairs half bath, downstairs full bath, LIMITED kitchen and ONLY VIA PRIOR AGREEMENT WITH HOSTS FOR LONGER (> 2 day) stays. Guests may access washer/dryer in basement but must be introduced to system first -- GUESTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO USE LAUNDRY WITHOUT PRIOR ORIENTATION! Yard access and limited orchard access with host approval (for your safety as our pigs roam in that area). Guests may not access outbuildings/farm animals without orientation and permission from homeowner. Owner bedroom and downstairs office are off limits to guests. No extra guests, events, or parties. In Kitchen -- Due to inappropriate use by prior guests, we only allow guests to use the downstairs kitchen if they are staying for 3 or more days, and only by prior negotiation. Guests staying for more than a few of days should arrange a cooking schedule with host to ensure that everyone has sufficient space in shared kitchen. As an alternative, guests are welcome to eat dinners with us for $6 (lacto-ovo vegetarian) or $9 (meat) per meal. PARKING -- You are welcome to park on site WHILE YOU ARE STAYING HERE, but parking is at your own risk (i.e., the AirBnb host and guest policies do not cover any damage to your vehicle; we have had no incidents but want you to be be aware of this risk). YOU MAY NOT LEAVE YOUR VEHICLE HERE WHILE YOU ARE AWAY -- NO OFFSITE AIRPORT PARKING! We will not allow you to use our property as an alternative to airport parking, as our homeowner's insurance does not cover damage to guests' vehicles. (It also means there is not parking available for other AirBnb guests who visit while you are away, which does a disservice to other visitors.) Also, once you factor in the costs of a taxi to/from the airport, you are not actually saving any money by leaving your car here! During your stay Owners Paul and Kim are both wildlife biologists working in the field of international conservation. Paul works a 9-5 job so is not home during the day most weekdays. Kim works part time outside the farm, but is often on the property during the day taking care of animals. (Although she might be out in the barn, animal sheds, or out on the farm field or in the forest.) We enjoy your company, but also respect your privacy; head upstairs for alone time, or come downstairs if you feel like a chat. We welcome visitors of all religions, genders, sexual orientations, races, and national origins, and we ask the same of our visitors; guests engaging in any form of discrimination, hate speech, or xenophobia are not welcome here. Se habla español; limited communication in French and Chinese also possible. Other things to note This is a working farm, so we tend to get up early! Quiet hours are 11 pm to 6 am. We also sell pork, eggs, and occasional produce to customers from our farm, so there may sometimes be other people visiting the house or parking in the driveway. PET NOTICE -- we have pets. Please make sure to keep the door at the bottom of the stairs that goes up to the AirBnb space closed to prevent unwanted visitors. We clean and vacuum often, but animals will still shed. IF YOU HAVE ALLERGIES, please medicate as necessary. Home not appropriate for visitors with severe allergies or fears of cats/dogs. We also request that guests remove shoes while in the house; shoes should be kept upstairs in the AirBnb space to ensure that the dog does not steal them (he gets very interested in novel shoes that don't smell like our feet). PLEASE USE CAUTION WHEN ENTERING AND LEAVING THE SPACE -- OUR DOG WILL TRY TO ESCAPE IF YOU ARE CARELESS! Speaking of dogs -- ours is still young and has not mastered the concepts of impulse control and personal space. Please give us a chance to get him on a leash before you enter, and understand that we are still teaching him not to jump on visitors. By booking, guests acknowledge that they must use 1.5 flights of stairs to reach the AirBnb space. This staircase is slightly steeper than a standard residential staircase (though typical for a house of its era) and relatively narrow, so it can be difficult to navigate if you are carrying a large suitcase.
