This clean, comfortable & spacious home, located in Village of Glenwood (rural) is nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. It has great view of the mountains, friendly neighbors, peaceful surroundings and spacious yard . It's great for couples, singles and small families and is handicap accessible. Large yard : country setting, Spray park, ice cream shop, public library, café/bakery, restaurant & old fashioned general store with ATM all within walking distance. Close to Waterton Park. The space Our family owned home is a vintage (older) 1200 sq.ft. 3 bedroom split level home - built in 1958 - on a spacious one acre lot in the little village of Glenwood - the middle of everywhere you want to be in southern Alberta. As mentioned above it is not a modern home but clean and comfortable - very basic.The bathroom was completely renovated in 2018, two bedrooms and kitchen and dining room received new flooring also in 2018 People have commented that it is a step back in time -" like going to grandmas house." Bedroom 1 has 1 queen bed, bedroom 2 has 1 queen bed and one tri-fold foam mattress (single size) and the other bedroom has 2 twin beds. There are also two single beds in an open space in basement as well as air mattresses that can be set up for additional sleeping. All bedrooms have closets with hangers and plenty of space for hanging clothes. Extra blankets and pillows are on the closet shelf in each room. We also have books, movies, puzzles and toys for children. New to our home this year is a ping pong table that you are welcome to use. This is a family home and occasionally family stay here when holidaying & returning to their roots. As a guest, you and company are the sole occupants of the house. Some family mementos remain and family pictures hang on walls and displayed on cabinets. They will not be removed. While I make every effort to be sure the home is clean and tidy I cannot promise or guarantee a fly or bug free home. The house is located in a country setting with horses and livestock pasturing close by and crop fields next door. These all attract insects. It is imperative when using the home to keep door closed to keep bugs and flies at a minimum. The front walk coming in to the house is ramped and the house is handicap accessible. There are 6 stairs going to the upstairs. There is only one bathroom and it has been completely renovated in 2018. The tub has a shower. However, there is an additional toilet and sink curtained off in the basement laundry area. The yard is large and spacious and guests are welcome to use it. In the back of the house is a raspberry patch ( dependant on his well they wintered) and fresh mint. In season you may pick a few raspberries and mint to enjoy. We also provide a small garden with lettuce and onions etc. which you are welcome to access if desired. Horses and cattle pasture in fields nearby. You might even get to see someone riding by on a horse. You may visit the animals but please do not enter their pastures. The surrounding countryside is breathtaking with close access to some of the best hiking and horse trails in the world. You may witness beautiful sunrises, sunsets and starry night skies. It is away from the bright city lights, shopping malls and traffic jams but offers loads of quiet country living in the heart of southwest Alberta; a nice relaxing atmosphere. TRANSPORTATION: There is no bus in Glenwood so you must have a vehicle to get here. - We are about a two hour drive from Calgary - It is about an hour drive to Lethbridge - approximately 1/2 hour to Fort Macleod, Cardston and Pincher Creek and 35-40 minutes to Waterton National Park. Details on what is nearby- by car: Waterton Dam - 10 minutes - great for swimming and boating Payne Lake - 20 minutes - great fishing St. Mary's Dam/Wally's beach - 20 minutes - great for swimming and fishing Cardston (25 minutes) - Remington Carriage center , Mormon temple, museums, restaurants, hospital, top notch live theater , shopping, swimming, skating, etc. Pincher Creek (35 minutes) - museums, swimming, skating, shopping, restaurants, hospital Fort Macleod (35 minutes) - swimming, shopping, museums, Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump, hospital Lethbridge (60 minutes) shopping malls, restaurants, Historic Japanese Gardens and other tourist points, etc. US Border (45 minutes) Waterton Lakes National Park (38-40 minutes) Castle Mountain (60 minutes) All major shopping, including liquor must be done in the larger centers. There is no gas station in Glenwood and only the Ice Cream shop open on Sunday's . Details on what is nearby: Van Dan's - small general store with an ATM ( Mon. -Sat. 9:00 - 6:30)- Tina's Café and Bakery (Tues. - Sat. May - August, Tues. - Fri. Sept. - May) - well known for her donuts and other fresh bakery items Casctus Pit (Takeout) Tues. - Sat. - well known for their chicken and home made fries Spray Park - operational May long weekend to September long weekend Ice Cream Shop - operational May long weekend to September long weekend Mon. - Sun - many flavors and sizes to choose from Post Office Library (All the above located on main ave) Playground (Center street) Outdoor skating rink - wintertime The Ranchhouse Convenient Store and Restaurant - located in Hill Spring Rock and gem shop (Center street) We offer use of a propane barbecue for an extra fee of $ 25 to cover cost of propane and cleaning. Please book at same time as booking the house if you are wanting your use it. Guest access There are three bedrooms - two with a queen bed and one with an additional tri-fold foam mattress, one bedroom with two single beds. Available is a pack and play for babies which is stored in a bedroom closet. In the basement is an open room featuring a ping pong table, small couch and chair; there are two single beds as well as queen air mattresses for additional sleeping. There is one bathroom with toilet, tub/shower combo and sink - there is an additional toilet and sink in basement next to washer & dryer but only privacy is hanging shower curtains. If someone chooses to sleep on the couch please place a sheet over it. Extra towels for bathroom and bed linens are stored in the hallway closet and drawers. Extra blankets can be found in bedroom closets. You have full access to the large yard. (Fire pit & wood in backyard with lawn swing, outdoor chairs, and barbecue). What is included: A fully equipped kitchen with plates, bowls, cups, mugs, coffee pot, Keurig, tea kettle, microwave, toaster, blender, stove, fridge, pots and pans, dishes and cutlery, etc. There is no dishwasher. Dishes will need to be washed by hand. Please use care washing the non stick pans as they should not have any abrasive used on them. Instructions say that a small amount of oil should be used in them even though they are non-stick. Clean sheets, blanket and pillows for beds. Clean towels, soap, shampoo/conditioner and hair dryer. Washer & dryer in basement Internet/wifi Other things to note You should note there is not a gas station in Glenwood so please make sure you have sufficient gas to drive to your next stop. New to Glenwood are two EV Charging stations on main street. No businesses are open on Sundays except the Ice Cream Shop. It is 3-4 blocks from the house to 'downtown.' Downtown hosts a general store with an ATM, cafe - bakery, pizza and other take out', cactus pit (chicken etc. ) library, spray park and ice cream parlor operational in the summer months. Many of our guests plan to visit Waterton National Park. Please be sure if that is your destination that you check their website regularly for updates. In case of a medical emergency there is an ambulance in town and a great "First Response Team." Access them by calling 911. Glenwood is a small village of 300 and is located 1/2 mile (.8 km.) off of Highway 505 and 810. While we have 2 queen beds and 2 single beds (upstairs ) and a fold out mattress which typically sleep 7 total we also have available airbeds and two additional single beds in an open space in the basement. We are flexible and will allow additional guests up to 9 people over the age of 2. (Reach out to me if you have questions concerning # of guests.) Please note however that there is a charge of $15 per person over 8 guests and I must be given an accurate headcount upon registration. This head count does not include anyone under the age of two. I am flexible and willing to work with you but you must be totally upfront and honest with your number of guests. It is imperative to have an accurate number for insurance reasons. The site will only allow you to book 8 so if you are wanting to book more you will have to message me and I will need to approve it. There is a propane barbecue available for use for an additional $25 fee to cover cost of cleaning and propane. If you are not aware, Waterton Park is free from June 20- Sept 2nd. Please plan accordingly as it may be busier then normal.
