Big Sur Stone House

Big Sur Stone House is a fully sustainable ocean view home in the center of a wide marine terrace with uninterrupted views of the Pacific coast to each far horizon. One can watch the waves from seven rooms of the house. Big Sur Stone is available for rental of 31 days or more. Access to Big Sur Stone House on Highway 1 is from the south. Access from the north on Highway 1 is currently unavailable due to CalTrans work on Regent's slide north of Lucia. The space The off-grid, three-bedroom stone-built home was designed by an architect who specializes in sustainable architecture. The house is built in three closely connected separate wings for the maximum amount of quiet and privacy, each with full direct views of the ocean. The Cottage Wing includes the kitchen, dining area, laundry, bedroom and full bath. The Studio Wing includes a large library and media room with a half bath; the adjacent Main Bedroom and full bath has single spa tub. A few feet away wholly separate stone walled Sunset Room has a magnificent view of the ocean waves and the moon and stars at night from the queen bed. There are also ocean views from the Sunset room bath and shower. The house complex has a fully stocked library, including a complete collection of music CDs, an extensive DVD film collection. The house has wireless WIFI and HDTV satellite service and Goole Tv with popular streaming services. The house has radiant floor heating throughout with tile and maple floors. The bathrooms and kitchen are served by both conventional and reverse osmosis water systems and have granite and onyx counter-tops. The gardens and grounds of the forty acre property adjoining the protected lands of the Los Padres National Forest create a completely secure enclave above the Pacific Coast Highway. The property is also available for long term stays. Guest access Currently, access to Big Sur Stone House is from Cambria driving north on the coast highway, Highway 1. Access to the property from the north on Highway 1 driving south remains unavailable at this time due to CalTrans continuing work on Regent’s Slide north of Lucia. Work is expected to be completed in early Spring 2026. Check with us or CalTrans on the current status of that work. With the reopening of Paul's Slide, a 6.8-mile segment of Highway 1 will continue to remain closed due to ongoing repairs at Regent's Slide at Post Mile (PM) 27.8. Caltrans estimates it will complete repairs at Regent's Slide in late fall, which will open Highway 1 to direct travel along the entire run of the Big Sur coast between Cambria and Carmel. Sole access is by private gated road. The property has easy direct entry from Highway 1 by car, no need for a four wheel drive. You can even arrive in a helicopter if you wish. We have an area for that and one of our favorite guests arrives that way. Big Sur Stone House is 31 miles from the small shops and stores of Big Sur, the Post Ranch Inn, the Ventana Inn and Spa, and Nepenthe Restaurant. The house is 40 miles north from Cambria, California. It is approximately one and one half hours from Paso Robles Wine country (29.6 miles); three and half hours north of Santa Barbara (179 miles), and approximately four and a half hours north of Los Angeles (273 miles). Other things to note The automated online rate shown based on two guests will not be the rate for you if you book for more than two guests. The rate for additional guests beyond the first two is $150 per person per night. Maximum number of guests is six individuals. The pet fee is $250 per pet. Cleaning Fee is $300. DRONES: The use of drones on the property is prohibited. PRIVACY AND PROHIBITED COMMERCIAL USES The house and property are exclusively designed for, and limited to, the domestic use of the owners and guests. Guests during their stay may photograph the property for their own personal use. Under no circumstances may any individual record, photograph, or film in any digital or analog format the house or the property for any commercial use whatsoever. Violation of the privacy rights of the owners or guests or the prohibition against commercial use of images of the house and property or guests are strictly enforced and will result in civil and criminal penalties.
