Lil House On The Prairie (LHOTP) is aptly named because it’s located on the edge of Nachusa Grassland’s 1,000 acre south Bison pasture. The 100+ herd of free ranging Bison can often be viewed right along the boundary fence to the west! This recently remodeled two bedroom cottage can sleep six with two queen size beds and with a pull out sofa bed. LHOTP offers a quiet, convenient, and comfortable place to base your adventures from. Behaved dogs & responsible owners welcome! The space LHOTP can best be described as a full featured country cottage. It features two bedrooms, an open common area with 10 ft ceilings that includes the kitchen with large island, a bath with shower (no tub), and over 2 acres of open area for a variety of outdoor recreational activities. The kitchen has a pantry closet with some basic supplies like waffle mix for the waffle maker, coffee and filters, coffee creamer, sugar, real maple syrup, salt, and pepper. Small appliances include waffle maker, coffee maker, toaster, hand mixer, crock pot, and micro wave. Larger appliances include smooth top electric range, dish washer, side by side refrigerator, and stacked apartment sized washer and dryer. The upper cupboards hold plates, bowls, glasses, and cups ... service for eight ... and more in island cabinets if needed (see photos). Also in the island cabinets is a complete set of cook ware (see photos). Silverware is in a drawer by the refrigerator, sharp knives next to that drawer, and cooking utensils are on the counter by the stove. The bathroom has a motion sensitive switch for the wall light by the shower and a humidistat to activate the exhaust fan. Towels and wash clothes are supplied along with soap, shampoo, and conditioner. A secretary just inside the entrance holds a variety of games, decks of cards, and visitor guides to the local area. The house features a wood burning stove that is not currently functional but our plan is to have it working soon. Guest access All areas of the house are available to guests with the exception of the garage. Other things to note The entire home is one level with a slight exception for the bedrooms. The bedroom floors are about one foot lower than the main floor of the rest of the house. There are two photos showing the step necessary to enter and exit the bedrooms. Well behaved dogs and responsible dog owners are welcome. We ask the owners police the yard and pick up after their dogs before departing. If the poop lands in the taller grass we don’t mow or in the mowed area down the hill .... no pick up is necessary.
