Enjoy a Rocky Mountain adventure at 9000 feet, with views of the Continental Divide. This mountain home is perfect for your remote, unplugged Colorado outdoor fun. Enjoy the sunsets, hot tub, stars, fireplace (bring wood), and snow-capped views. You will need a 4WD high clearance vehicle, and skill in mountain driving. This is only a good fit for laid back, independent, adventurers who want to enjoy being outside. Number of guests must be accurate. Non cigarette smokers only. No pets. Our mountain home is a good fit for travelers who: -want a home base to enjoy nearby hiking, biking, fishing, skiing, snowshoeing, rafting, kayaking, or horseback riding -want to plan fun day trips, less than an hour away, to Boulder, Golden, Idaho Springs, or Black Hawk, or plan for a little more than an hour away, to Red Rocks, Arapahoe Basin, Loveland, or Rocky Mountain National Park -want to hike or bike around our neighborhood and enjoy great views -want to relax in a quiet, remote location with amazing views -don't mind shoveling snow to access the hot tub, or even the front door when the mountain weather is in full force -aren't upset and bothered if there is dust on a ceiling fan, pine pollen on the outdoor furniture, a cobweb in the corner, etc. The linens are cleaned, surfaces are disinfected, the hot tub is cleaned between guests, and the house is clean by normal standards. It is NOT a 5 star hotel, and we want to avoid less than 5 star reviews from travelers who are wanting that type of vacation. -have a 4WD high clearance vehicle and are comfortable driving in the mountains (our neighbors like their solitude, and are not available to help with directions or stuck vehicles) -enjoy cooking, or don't mind being a 15 minute mountain drive from the closest restaurants in Nederland Please be aware of the following before booking: -you cannot bring extra people or have visitors during your stay -no pets (undisclosed pets will result in a $300 fee) -there is no washer or dryer -the bedrooms are small, and the beds are packed tightly against the walls -the TV is mounted high on the wall so it cannot be connected to anything, plus there is no cable and limited streaming (a collection of DVD movies is provided) -the drive to the house is uphill on mountain roads -there is nothing in walking distance except beautiful views -there will be snow, and sometimes blizzards, during the winter Almost all of our wonderful guests over the past 10 years, have found our mountain get away to be the perfect vacation for them, but it is not a good fit for everyone. Please read all of the information, and reach out with any questions before booking. There is a difference between a 5 star hotel, and a 5 star vacation experience, and we want to make sure you are picking the right property so that you can have the best vacation ever. entire home To reach us, please try email, or one of our cell phone numbers that you will have access to after booking. We are sometimes at our other home nearby, but usually not available in person. We will get back to you as soon as possible, but you will need to be an experienced traveler that is fairly self sufficient. Please be accurate with the number of guests you have staying to avoid violating our occupancy license. Having additional guests or pets is cause for immediate eviction with no refund. Our quiet mountain neighborhood has amazing views of the Continental Divide. We have another rental home across the driveway and there are two homes in view farther down the mountain. It can still be described as feeling remote. We are 15 minutes from the mountain town of Nederland, which has cute shops, great restaurants, a historical working carousel and the closest laundromat. Please note that our home is on top of a mountain, which can present challenges. Services are not always easily and readily available, and in the winter, we often get 500 inches of snow. Our plow service plows regularly, but it is possible to be snowed in until he gets to us. There will likely be snow shoveling to access the hot tub. You will need a 4WD with high clearance for most of the winter, and it is not a good idea to have a morning flight. Also, being a mountain home, you may encounter severe weather, lack of easy access to supplies or repairs, lack of internet connection or phone service, spiders and dust- especially pine dust. If you are looking for a 5 star, spotless hotel experience, this is not the right fit for you. Our home is a 5 star vacation experience for adventurous, outdoorsy travelers who want to enjoy feeling like a mountain local. You will need a 4WD high clearance vehicle for most of October through May, and possibly as early as September. We are at 9,000 feet, so the drive up is steep, on hard-packed, county maintained roads. It is almost always possible to park right next to the house, but in severe weather when the driveway is slippery, or buried in snow, you may need to park about 30 yards above the house on the parking pad, and hike down the driveway. Boots are a must in winter. Our plow service is excellent, but when we get hit with a blizzard, it may take time to dig out. We love snowstorms in the mountains, but a sense of adventure is essential. FAQs ---How far to Denver Airport? 65 miles/ 1.5 hours ---How far to the nearest grocery store/gas station/restaurant choices? Nederland 8 miles/ 15 minutes ---How far to Boulder? 20 miles/ 45 minutes ---How far to Rocky Mountain National Park? 60 miles/ 1.5 hours ---How far to Golden Gate State Park? 6 miles/15 minutes ---How far away are the neighbors? The house looks pretty much straight out towards the mountains. If you stand outside in front of the house, you can see 2 homes farther down the mountain, about 150 yards away. One is occupied full time, and the other is a vacation home. There is also a home on the other side of our driveway, about 100 yards from our home. There is a house further up the mountain that can be partially seen, depending on where you are standing outside. We have a fairly long drive, and it feels private. ---Can I bring my dog? Sorry, no pets. ---Will it snow? Yes. Sometimes way more than other times. ---Does the house have air conditioning? No. At 9000 feet, the air, especially at night, is always cool. ---How are the driving conditions? It depends on the weather. Our neighborhood has hard packed dirt roads, and we have a paved driveway. One mile of the drive up the mountain is fairly steep. A 4WD is definitely needed in winter November-March, but we can have large dumps of snow as early as October and as late as May. Early and late snow melts fast and is easily plowed, but can cause travel delays. ---Does the house have cable, Netflix, TV plug in for more watching options....? No. Colorado has endless, amazing outdoor options, and we love to wear ourselves out during the day, disconnect from all of the electronics, and enjoy the hot tub, fireplace or fire pit, grilling out, and playing games in the evening. There is a large TV and DVD player for a movie night. ---Is there Wi-Fi? Yes, but mountain internet can be a bit unreliable and not necessarily fast enough for streaming. It is solid for researching local trails, checking email, etc. but sometimes not enough for video streaming/movie watching. Again, we go there to unplug. PLEASE NOTE- Important disclaimers for winter time rentals: - The hot tub is open all year, but may require shoveling (snow shovel provided) from November through April to access it. It is located about 25 feet from the house. -Winter months absolutely require a 4WD, high clearance vehicle. -It is possible for the house to get snowed in. If is at 9000 feet and gets over 300 inches of snowfall. If the county closes the main access road, we will refund your payment, or you may be able to delay your arrival depending on the weather and our calendar. In the many years we have hosted, we have had to delay one check in by two days. We also had one guest who got snowed in for an extra day and enjoyed the additional free night. -We are located only 13 miles from Eldora Ski Mountain!
