Classic Upstate NY Country Estate A one km drive through the woods, past on old 1700s barn and pond and up to the main house, this home was originally an inn built in the 1700s and reputed to have had George Washington as a guest. A 29 acre estate with pool and multiple entertaining areas and a large country kitchen, the house is an expansive and unique home that provides the ultimate upstate New York living, with the Culinary Institute of America a ten minute drive away as well as picturesque Rhinebeck with its many high end restaurants. For those looking for an upstate/dutchess county getaway for the family, just two hours drive or train from New York City, this is a truly unique gem of a property. The long drive through the woods to get to the house provides the privacy and romantic setting that is quite unique and is a tremendous experience, no matter what the season! The 7 bedroom, 5 bath, 10,000 sq. ft. property is a piece of American history, with a hand-chiseled triple height barn and numerous old fireplaces, yet has been modernized to have the amenities and comforts of a 21st century home. In the house, the entertainment space is second to none. Enter to a vast open floor main reception space lit by delicate chandeliers. The delightfully furnished room has a fireplace, piano, and dining area with a long wooden table that can seat 10. Guests References “ We enjoyed a long, early October weekend at Hendricks House Estate and were blown away. This historic property is beautiful inside and out and has been meticulously maintained and updated. There are plenty of rooms to gather in small groups and large (we celebrated my wife’s 40th birthday with 4 other couples). We played games fireside in the Red Room after dinner, had leisurely (and bountiful!) breakfasts in the kitchen, watched baseball in the family room and even made decadent S’more’s (homemade graham crackers!) one evening at the fire pit. We swam in the heated pool and slept well in the very comfortable beds. There is plenty to do in the surrounding towns if you feel like venturing off the property – we had a few very nice meals, had some excellent hikes and even went archering. If you’re looking for a large house in a private setting with attentive staff this is the home for you! Mathew Means and Family One week Rental October 2018 Dutchess County elegance beyond your wildest dreams Having fallen in love with Hendricks House after seeing the photos, we sensibly dialled down our excitement levels and prepared ourselves for disappointment as we rounded the final corner of the lovely 1 km long driveway. As the house came into view, jaws dropped commensurately with the palpable rise in excitement. This is a stunningly beautiful property, just... STUNNING. Like a grand dame, dressed in her white finery, the house commands your gaze falls upon it. Large but by no means ridiculously so, every room in the house is blessed with sympathetic interior design, reflecting the date of the property (late 18th century) yet with contemporary country touches everywhere that make a house a home. The gardens at Hendricks House are, as with all great houses, an extension of the interior. Thoughtful in planning, excellent in execution, a lot of time and effort has clearly gone into the landscaping. Two beautiful ponds form the focal point, with a Monet-esque bridge joining them, and colourful planting adorn the borders and urns to soften the verdant backdrop of the distant woods. At night, from your stone terraced seating area, set as if centre stage in the garden, a hundred twinkly lights illuminate one's entire field of view. So pretty is this IMAXian effect that, after a few sundowners, one could easily imagine having died and gone to heaven! The pool area is very pretty and laps up to a summer kitchen/dining space that has everything you need for dining with family and friends. Even poolside, portable, bluetooth speakers were provided enabling our teenage girls to 'crank up da beats' and imagine they were partying with the Kardashians (God forbid!). So, please don't book this place, don't even think about it. It is clearly not for you because my family and I would very much like to return and, if it becomes too popular, it may be a very longtime before we do. ” Marcus Vere and family July 2017 Rental The home and grounds are architectural digest quality and the area offered much to see and enjoy.
