Guest suite in Norwich
Description
You get the best of both worlds with this kid friendly and modern 2br apartment inside the oldest house in Norwich - conveniently located 1 mile from Dartmouth Green and a five minute walk from Dan & Whit's. There are two small bedrooms (1 with a queen bed, 1 with a twin over full bunk bed and a single sleeper sofa), bath with laundry and tub, washer and dryer, and full kitchen. The space **As the mom of three kids, this apartment is set up to best serve two adults and up to three kids, with each kid getting their own bed (but in one small bedroom). FIVE ADULTS WILL NOT FIT, plus you're all sharing one bathroom!** Even four adults is a stretch, as two of them will be sleeping on bunk beds or a futon. My other disclaimer is that we're an active and sometimes chaotic household, and we're always home when we host guests. This is not a quiet, romantic stay in the woods: you'll occasionally hear a door slam or a dog bark, and we're often out roasting s'mores around the fire pit at night (please join us!). However, if you're traveling with kids or dogs and looking for a kid- and dog-tested apartment that doesn't have antiques or breakable items within reach and does have a trampoline in the back yard, we're a great option. On to the actual listing: the Hatch-Peisch house was built in 1773 and is the oldest frame house in Norwich. The main house was lovingly restored by its previous owners; the apartment was added over the garage during renovations and features warm pumpkin pine floors, a full kitchen, a dining table that seats eight, two small bedrooms, and a full bath including tub with shower and washer/dryer. It also contains a number of awesome toys/games/legos/books sure to entertain the younger set. The apartment has central a/c and forced hot air. Guest access WARNING: there are three flights of stairs! Really. Three whole flights of shared stairs to get in and out of the apartment. YOU MUST CLIMB STAIRS. The apartment is accessed via a shared stairway that leads up through our back barn and past our family's office space, woodworking shop, and playroom. You may run into my family (including two large but friendly dogs) as you enter and exit the apartment. We do keep the door between the main house and the barn shut, but since there are three kids running around, there are occasional breaches that no amount of my yelling "WE HAVE AIRBNB GUESTS SHUT THE DOOR!" will prevent. The apartment itself, however, does have a lockable door, and no kids or dogs ever wander up there anyway. There is a motion activated camera on the back door that records both voice and video between 10pm and 6am. Guests with children are welcome to use our outdoor play equipment, and I would be happy to put you in touch with my kids if you need a babysitter or dogsitter during your stay. Other things to note Please note that we're happy to host dogs, but they must be friendly to both dogs and children (and able to manage those three flights of stairs to get outside). Let me know you'll be bringing a dog when you send your reservation request. Lastly, this is an old school AirBnB - you're staying in an apartment attached to my house and accessed through a shared stairway. You will hear an occasional door slam (15 year olds are not known for their stealth, and the mud room door is directly below the main bedroom) and dog bark. I don't charge extra for cleaning (I do it myself) but I do ask you to strip the beds and leave linens and towels by the washing machine before you go. The difference between the nightly price and the much larger total price is due solely to VT lodging taxes (12%) and AirBnB adding on a percentage for their cut. Meals and Rooms Tax #MRT-10126712.
