Gernos Farmhouse
Gernos Farmhouse
Description
A large house on a 100 acre private estate. Half of the land is mature broadleaf woodland. The fields are all managed organically for beef, lambs and wildlife. We I grow vegetables outside and in polytunnels. Three orchards provide fruit in summer and autumn. The space This is a much-loved family home on an organic farm and nature reserve. If you value tranquility, clean air, chemical-free spring water, organic meadows, private woods and streams you will probably love it here. There is no significant traffic within 2km and the farmhouse is surrounded by our own woods. Pets are welcome. Instead of fossil-fuel powered central heating we heat with wood harvested sustainably from our own woods. There is no TV, but there is a video player and a very large DVD collection. Broadband WiFi is available in much of the house. We try to be plastic free and only use eco-friendly cleaning materials. Guest access You are free to roam over the whole estate which contains no major hazards beyond nettles, brambles and boggy bits. Other things to note The house is very well insulated and traps a lot of solar heat in the large conservatory, but our main and preferred mode of heating is logged wood that I harvest from our forest. In winter and cooler evenings in summer, guests will have to transfer dried logs from the conservatory to the stove. The luxury of basking in the heat of a windowed log fire is a great pleasure though. Other heating sources include an gas-fired Esse range and electric radiators, but for the sake of the planet, we hope you will limit your use of these, except during cold weather.
