Description

This lovely, two-story historic home is the perfect getaway spot for extended families, groups of friends, or any combination of the two. Originally built in the mid-nineteenth century and updated throughout, the house combines traditional New England charm with a complete range of modern conveniences and comforts. Central location, bright, sunny rooms, and stylish, eclectic decor will make you feel certain you’ve arrived at your ideal vacation hideaway. Portland #STHR-0003450-2018 The space The house has a beautiful layout. Enter into a bright sitting room just off the kitchen, with big windows, a large desk, and a daybed. Proceed through the kitchen to a central dining room where the table accommodates 8-10. Pass through the front foyer into a charming living room where you can listen to vinyl records, peruse a wide-ranging collection of books, and get your screen time. Off the living room is a sweet west-facing bedroom with a queen bed. Climb the main staircase and turn right for the master bedroom, which has a king bed and beautiful morning light. Just at the top of the stairs is a full bathroom with shower and conveniently-located washer/dryer. To the left of the stairs is a dressing area. On the other side of the dressing area is a spacious bedroom with queen bed, east and west light, and easy access to the deck. The third upstairs bedroom is a semi-private nook at the top of the back stairs with full bed, a window onto the deck, and just enough room to hang your hat. The deck is a quiet contender for sweetest spot in the West End. High above the street and sheltered by a massive maple, the deck is a lovely place to drink your morning coffee, or an aperitif before a night out. The back stairs lead to another full bathroom, with a big shower and everything you’ll need to get cleaned up for a day (or night) on the town. Just beyond the bathroom, you’re back to the sun porch and kitchen. Additional amenities: --one designated off-street parking spot on the property (it is small and not ideal for larger vehicles) --Wifi, 42-inch HD Hisense smart TV --fully-equipped kitchen includes dishwasher, refrigerator/freezer with ice maker, four-burner gas stove with center griddle, lobster pots and crackers, good quality cookware, and microwave --upstairs bathroom includes stackable washer/dryer --turntable with eclectic collection of vinyl records --bluetooth speaker Guest access Guests will have full access to the house and amenities. *This is our home, and we like to know a little something about our guests. When you request to book, please introduce yourselves and tell us what brings you to Portland. Other things to note PRIVACY DETAILS for sleeping accommodations: Two of the upstairs bedrooms (the king and the queen with the swan print) are fully private (with doors). The third upstairs bed (full size, off deck, with Chinese lantern) is separated from the swan room by a door, but it's in an alcove at the top of the back stairs, so if someone is using the stairs to get to the swan room (or the deck), then people sleeping in the alcove bed are only separated by curtain. If this is a concern, people sleeping in swan room can always just avoid these stairs and access their bedroom via the main staircase. Downstairs, the queen bed off the living room (striped duvet cover) is only separated by a curtain. Even so, the house layout is such that this bedroom feels secluded. The living room is at one end of the house, so it's easy to go up and down stairs, and occupy the kitchen and dining room, without disturbing people sleeping in this bedroom. The front room with daybed is probably the least private, as it is just off the kitchen, separated only by the coral-colored curtains. And yet unless people are in the kitchen, this room feels like its own corner of the house. We also have 2 twin air mattresses. The upstairs hall area in front of the closets makes a good spot for at least one of these mattresses, though it's probably big enough to fit both side by side. The living room also provides plenty of floor space for the air mattresses. For more insight into the accommodations, please read our reviews. We’ve hosted many groups of 10, and guests routinely comment on how well the layout works for large parties. Unless people in your group have strict privacy requirements, we're confident that you’ll find the house spacious and comfortable for all.
