Chic Cabin on Callicoon Creek
***FEATURED IN ARCHITECTURAL DIGEST, TRAVEL & LEISURE, APARTMENT THERAPY, AND FODORS TRAVEL*** Set back on a small private road, this cabin dating back to the 1800s is perched above the Callicoon Creek, popular with fly fishermen casting for rainbow trout. Head up the wooded driveway and find yourself in a serene, green clearing all your own. The cabin and studio make for a peaceful getaway, shielded from the surroundings, but incredibly convenient for reaching nearby towns and activities. The space You’ll know the second you walk in that the cabin has been sitting in its spot for a very long time, with big aged joists and original planks running throughout. However, it has been thoughtfully updated for modern life. The living room of the house has a comfortable DWR chaise and two Kangaroo lounge chairs, arranged around a handsome Hearthstone wood burning stove with a large picture window for enjoying the flame. The internet is lightning fast and there is an Apple TV with streaming services. The upstairs bedroom has a queen-sized bed with a Tuft & Needle Mint mattress, and a twin daybed. The room is simple and serene, looking out on the beautiful hillside outside the home. Downstairs is a cozier bedroom with a full-sized bed that looks out onto the front porch and the big creek that runs by. Fall asleep to the white noise of the creek and wake up to the sound of birds chirping. Both beds are furnished with Cozy Earth linens. The cabin itself is ideal for 2-4 guests, but for more adventurous visitors there is also the option of the bunkhouse (bedroom 3) directly across the deck from the cabin. It has two twin beds (with mosquito nets) which can be pushed together at your request to form a larger single bed. In the summer, the space is cooled with a ceiling fan, but in the shady setting, all you need is the breeze through the double screen doors. There is no bathroom or running water in bunkhouse. The bunkhouse is only usable between 5/15 and 9/15. The recently renovated (June 2022) bathroom is rustic yet modern. It has a tiled stand-up shower and all modern plumbing. We provide Blind Barber shampoo/conditioner/body wash. The kitchen is also recently renovated, and it's fully stocked well beyond the average rental. Misen chef's knife, OXO burr grinder, Chemex, French press, Cosori gooseneck kettle, Staub cocotte and baking dishes, Dualit hand mixer, Toshiba rice maker, food processor, blender, cast iron pan, full size fridge/freezer, kitchen gadgets, lots of mugs/stemware/dishware. The oven is too small to roast a turkey, but perfect for a large roast chicken. Our water is pumped from a natural spring on the property, which is filtered for sediment and also zapped for bacteria with a UV light. Those wary of country water can rest assured ours has been tested and is completely safe to drink. In front of the house runs the Callicoon Creek, which feeds nearby into the Delaware River. For fly fishing enthusiasts, there is a private path steps from the front porch that leads directly down to the bank. Occasionally after a big storm, the creek becomes a mighty river and is best watched from a distance. But normally, the lower water reveals an idyllic little beach. Bring a good book and one of our folding deck chairs, and you can spend an entire afternoon lounging creekside. If you catch a trout in the creek (or if you just buy one!), bring it back and grill it on our deck, then set up a beautiful meal with friends and family on the large wooden farm table. And there's lots of lighting for an evening outdoors. As the night rolls on, light a fire in our fire pit, and when it's time to head indoors, we have plenty of board games to keep you busy. Near the studio, up slightly on a hill and nestled in a little alcove of trees is our 2-person hot tub. Soak away your stress under the stars or surrounded by a blanket of snow. Just a few steps away, lay back in the hammock, lightly shaded by the tree canopy overhead. For some extra pampering, enjoy our newly installed outdoor Finnish Sauna. Guest access You can feel free to trek nearby around our property. The grounds are a little more than 3 acres stretching out back and to the left of the house. For fishing access, you can walk directly down the path from the front porch, or drive to the many public access points. About 1.4 miles heading north on North Branch Road towards Robisch Hill Road, there is a public access point to a bend in the creek. You'll see a brown sign with yellow letters. There is another public access right past Robisch Hill Road. Other things to note The driveway is on the steeper side. In good weather, a two wheel drive is sufficient but in harsher winter weather, a 4-wheel drive has better luck making it all the way up to the top. You might need to park only partway up and walk up the rest of the driveway to the cabin. Bring your best winter boots.
