Hotel Yak & Yeti
Description
Opened on September 27, 1977, as Nepal’s very first five-star hotel, Hotel Yak & Yeti is located in the heart of Kathmandu at Durbar Marg . The hotel began with 120 beautifully designed rooms. Today, it has grown to offer 241 rooms, blending classic charm with modern comfort. Staying at Yak & Yeti feels like walking through a living museum. The interiors are adorned with intricate artwork, antique treasures, and traditional Nepali designs that tell stories of the country's rich heritage. Outside, the lush gardens offer a peaceful escape, complete with green lawns, a serene pond, and striking sculptures that add to the hotel's charm. One of the hotel’s most iconic features is the Lal Durbar Convention Center, a restored part of the historic Lal Durbar Palace. Built in 1890 by Prime Minister Bir Shumsher Jung Bahadur Rana for his son Rudra, the palace showcases a unique mix of European, Persian, and Nepali architectural styles. Though parts of it were lost over time, the Saraf family dedicated nearly forty years to lovingly restoring it. Today, it serves as an elegant venue for weddings, meetings, and grand events. Guests can also enjoy browsing the shopping arcade, where local crafts and souvenirs let you take home a piece of Nepal. In the waiting area, you’ll find a colorful, eye-catching gazebo created by contemporary artist Tsherin Sherpa. The artwork reimagines traditional Tibetan Buddhist motifs with modern influences, creating a space where sacred traditions meet global culture. From the vibrant Ganesha statue to traditional panas (oil lamps) and fine architectural details, every corner of Yak & Yeti radiates Nepali character. At the reception, the beautifully carved aakhi jhyal, a traditional wooden window greets you with timeless elegance. With warm hospitality, royal touches, and a deep connection to Nepal’s past and present, Hotel Yak & Yeti promises a truly memorable experience in the capital.
